Fantasy trilogy, captured slave eventually becomes queen

Woman is captured from a village during a war raid and made a slave at the ruler’s palace.

She is not happy to be there and takes a vow of silence and doesn’t speak for 5 years until she overhears the ruler’s wives plotting to poison him. She decided to finally speak and warns him and asks that her son be protected in exchange.

Against the odds they fall in love and he ends up raising her son alongside his own heir. Heaps of other stuff happens, but that’s sort of how it begins. I read this probably 15 years ago and would love to re-read but can’t remember the title or author.
