How many books has everyone read this year and which was your favourite?

So far I have read 118 books in 2019 some of my favourites have been rebecca by daphne du maurier, Frankenstein by mary Shelley, the bookshop on the shore by jenny colgan and the shopaholic series by sophie kinsella.

I'm on my 38th book. I loved Eleanor Oliphant, Hearts Invisible Furies and Moving! Can't believe you've read over 100 books. Work gets in the way of reading! 😂

So far I'm on my 81st book and my favourites would probably be Riley, Memoirs of a Geisha, PS, I Love You and The Cuckoo's Calling but idk. I've read soo many good books this year.

This is all so impressive reading how many books most people have read. I’ve managed to read 8 only. My favourite one this year was Jacqui Burnett’s Life’s Not Yoga. So inspiring!

83 & 5 on the go so far! I have read several non fiction lately which has made a real change. I think A Tomb With a View: The Stories & Glories of Graveyards by Peter Ross was brilliant!

Just passed my target for the year - it doesn't include reference books and papers and the endless reading of my own works but still time to try and hit one book a week. don't think I'll make it but lots on to read list

I'm not a great reader nor am I quick but set a target of 15 books for 2021. I am pretty chuffed that I've surpassed this already with 20 books. Reading some of the quantities of others achievements it's not much, but I've enjoyed the challenged and I've also pushed myself well out of my comfort zone with types of books too. the only issue I have with targets is that everyone seems to raise them each time, well I'm staying put next year with mine but will continue to push myself with different topics and authors.

I'm afraid I am a very slow reader despite the fact I did a speed-reading course. I reserve using those skills for newspapers etc. For books, I like to read and appreciate the rhythm of the words, the choice of words, the characters, etc. - I get quite involved and if I don't then I give up on them! Hence I probably only fully read a dozen at the very most.

I have read 18 books so far this year. Like Anna, if I am really enjoying a book then I slow down, savour the quality of the writing sentence by sentence. For instance 'The Black Snow' by Paul Lynch, maybe some of you have read it? I found myself re-reading pages, saying to my long-suffering husband, 'Listen to this!'

Some books are sheer joy, some are hard going and I find my mind wandering. Amir Mukherjee's books are a delight for me, although as someone said the books I write are like his, I guess it might be just that we're on the same wavelength. I ought to buy another one and find time to read it. I can certainly recommend them if you like crime with wit and keen observation.

This thread is making me think I must find time to read more!

The joys of retirement! I checked and have read 68 books and did not finish three others so far this year. Have three more in the works and am not sure what December will bring. Found a lot of books to love and others to respect. Goodreads is such a temptation for me!

Wow, 68 is impressive Abigail! That is my aim when I retire, to read all the books I haven't time for at the moment, will be bliss!

That sounds amazing. Like when you slow down as you eat the last three Jaffa Cakes in the packet! There’s a lot to be said for savouring! :)

You could eat the three Jaffa cakes very slowly at the same time as slowly reading each sentence, that would be even better, possibly even heavenly lol 😂

I only listed/rated 17 books so far and didn't put up reviews of all of them, but I read a lot more than I take time to list/rate and review - probably about 4x. So a conservative estimate would be under 70 books.
Only 2 of them got 5 stars, one was a fiction. re-read, one was non-fiction.
