jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I've set up a poll to pick the date for the December Toppler. It will run from now through Sunday the 16th.

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Oh gosh, another Toppler already. Does this one measure number of books read, or number of pages read?

message 3: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Nov 11, 2014 03:33PM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments All will be revealed, Gail ;) Jmom will post the rules closer to the date, when we decide when that is.

Feel free to go through our archives and toppler folders to see what the 24 hour ones are like. But remember, Jmom could switch it up entirely. Even us other mods have no idea what the topplers will be like until they are posted!

message 4: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Ah, so it's different each time. I shall wait then. :-) I was just thinking that I'd choose very short books if it were books we were counting, but I might choose a long one if it were pages.

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments Gail wrote: "Oh gosh, another Toppler already. Does this one measure number of books read, or number of pages read?"

Yes, each Toppler is different. We have one every other month. The one in December is a 24 hour one, so not as intensive.

I've learned that shorter books make for better Toppler fodder. Generally, you have to start and finish your book(s) within the time frame regardless of the number of pages in the book. Maybe jaxnsmom will throw something completely different at us - like number of pages. We won't know until she posts the details.

Oh! My birthday falls on a Saturday this year.

Mine is on Sunday. :D

message 8: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I've plumped for the earlier date as otherwise I won't be around. 13th is a possible for me but things might be hectic. I will still participate though even if I don't manage to finish a book (or able to report in).

message 9: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I will be on a girls' shopping trip in Nashville on the 6th so I will not be able to participate on that date at all. I might can on the other dates, but too soon to say for sure.

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments Cherie wrote: "Mine is on Sunday. :D ..."

In December, during one of the weekends for the Toppler? Or this coming Sunday?

Mine looks like it will be on a Toppler.

message 11: by Elsbeth (new)

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) | 1152 comments I'll be working of the 6th and the 20th, so I voted for the 13th - not yet knowing if I'll be able to participate... Hopefully, because I haven't done a 24 hour-Toppler, yet!

message 12: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments I voted for the 6th, because it's the only date I know for definite I'd be able to do. I guess with a one-day toppler it's best to be free for the whole day, and it will be hard to find a day that everyone is free on, especially so close to Christmas. Although I suppose it would be possible to join in for a couple of hours and read a really short book?

message 13: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I voted for December 6th :-)

Oh, in December. My birthday is on the middle weekend (the 14th) and I know that the girls have something planned. Becky keept reminding me that we are going to her house. Was going to be Saturday, but now it is on Sunday.

message 15: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments Another December baby. :) I know so many people who have birthdays in December. One of my friends has hers on the 12th. We celebrate each one separately - double the fun.

message 16: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments My birthday is in December too, but after the Toppler dates. :-)

message 17: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments Are you a Christmas baby, Gail? Both my grandkids were due on Christmas Day. My grandson held out till January 1 (he was 2nd baby born that morning), and my granddaughter waited until December 27th. Still, Christmas is expensive with adding two additional presents. I told my son that he didn't plan that very well. LOL!

message 18: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments I was due on Christmas day too, but was born a few days later. :-)

message 19: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments The 24 hour Topplers are a lot simpler than the week long ones! There's not enough time for most of us to read more than one book, so it's mainly about the method of choosing your book(s). Basically, if you think you'll read/listen to one book in that 24 hour period, then you can participate (and earn a badge).

This has been such a frustrating year for some of us, that I think this is going to be the easiest Toppler ever to plan for.

My first Toppler was a 24 hour one. I stayed up all night and read three books. There's no way I could do that now.

message 20: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Is there a minimum number of pages the book must have? And are there any restrictions in type of book (such as no children's books)?

message 21: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments I think the first 24 hour Toppler was the only one I stayed up for the full (or almost full) 24 hours.

My oldest granddaughter was born on Dec 31st. My first sisters' birthday is Dec 3rd and we are the same age for 11 days each year. One of my nephews was born on my birthday, and one of my nieces was born on my sister's birthday. The 5 of us born in December are the only ones in my whole family born in December.

You are too funny! What happened to "I shall wait then. :-) "? You will have to be patient, just like everyone else. I will announce the details at least two weeks before the Toppler, so you'll have plenty of time for planning and gophering :)

message 29: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Hi Kristie! It's good to see members excited! I love giving out first badges, but if you can't wait you can earn one by participating in the Monthly Challenge and/or Group Read for November.

Haha - well, I thought I'd done some good waiting (for, like, a few whole hours!) and that you'd finally arrived to announce the rules! :-)

LOL! Christmas must drive you crazy then. Or are you one of those who picks at the tape on your presents so you can get a peek before Christmas morning?

message 35: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Haha, no, Christmas doesn't drive me crazy. I just open presents when I get them, rather than wait till Christmas day. :) I don't really have any Christmas rituals.

ROFL! I think we've found your Achilles heel.

I remember whining at my parents to let us open one present on Christmas Eve, like our friends got to. But they would not cave in and we had to wait until the morning. We were always glad that we did have to wait, because it would have spoiled the fun.

So enjoy the anticipation of the toppler, Gail. It's all part of the total package.

message 37: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Haha - I have lots of Achilles heels! But I will just put the Toppler out of my head until the details are announced - I can't keep things I don't know about yet in my head! They would just float around all confused! :-)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments jaxnsmom wrote: "My first Toppler was a 24 hour one. I stayed up all night and read three books. There's no way I could do that now. "

Almeta and I would do that, too, J-Mom. I would stay the night at her apartment on her uncomfortable couch, we'd have our food all planned out, we'd have our Red Bull and 5-hour energy NASTY drinks, and we'd help each other stay awake.

However, the recovery of our abused bodies just wasn't worth it. At least not for me. But, it was fun, too.

message 40: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments It looks like December 6th is the date for the Toppler. I'll announce details this weekend. This one's going to be very easy and won't require much gophering.

You can still gopher as much as you want, but it isn't necessary for those who won't have much time, or are great procrastinators like me :) It never hurts to have too many choices - then you can go nuts (as a fruitcake) narrowing them down.

message 50: by Stephanie (new)
