Tom Olbert | 1445 comments Thanks, guys. As always, looking forward to yours.

message 5: by Tom (new)

Tom Olbert | 1445 comments A very moving and provocative story, Justin. Strong use of metaphor. (Mel Gibson should take a gander at this.)

Justin Sewall | 1244 comments Thanks Tom, much appreciated!

message 7: by Kalifer (new)

Kalifer Deil | 359 comments Hi All, mine's up. Now I can read the others.

message 8: by Justin (new)

Justin Sewall | 1244 comments Good story Kalifer, but I'm confused by the ending. The last paragraph specifically and the last sentence. I'm not making the connection. Nice world building!

message 9: by Kalifer (new)

Kalifer Deil | 359 comments Hi Justin, First the explorers, then the exploiters. She saw how innocent and vulnerable they were.

One of my daydreams was to have a time machine so I could warn Montezuma about Cortes and show Montezuma how to make gunpowder. I did a past story on that but it still isn't out of my system.

message 10: by Clare (new)

Clare O'Beara | 4 comments Two excellent stories, Justin and Kalifer. Both have strong themes and an identifiable voice.

Understood, thanks Kalifer. Again, well done. Have you ever read Harry Turtledove's "Guns of the South"?

Kalifer Deil | 359 comments Hi Justin, I haven't read "Guns of the South" but know the story.
With the many-worlds interpretation of Quantum Mechanics, maybe going back in time is possible, but you will be in a new branched off parallel Universe and not really affecting the one you came from. Just a thought I don't really believe. Even so, I hate to see the bad guys going back in time without the good guys finding out and trying to neutralize them.

Finally stole some time to write a story. Enjoy...

message 15: by Tom (last edited Nov 18, 2019 04:24PM) (new)

Tom Olbert | 1445 comments Very intriguing concept, Jot. Although more tell than show, it moved along and held my attention right to the end.

Thanks Tom. Would have liked to see more plot than talk, but sometimes that's how the story comes to me.

Hey Chris, glad your "Checking in". I'll read all the stories together tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

Anyone doing any travelling for Thanksgiving?

C. Lloyd Preville (clpreville) | 737 comments I'm travelling to the SF Bay Area to hang with the homies. Was hoping to get some of that wonderful Dungeness Crab, but the season was delayed due to whales. Apparently the whales are hanging around the wrong street corners smoking cigarettes, drinking cheap beer, and playing loud music.

I'm feeling crabby about it, and starting to wonder how California Whale might taste with a little dab of mayo and some of that famous SF French Bread.

Whale is better with horseradish, but i hear there's a shortage of that, too. I think the Oysters are behind it all.

Greg Krumrey (gkrumrey) | 327 comments Got mine done as unusual, just under the wire.

To conserve resources, I followed the edit of Reduce, Reuse, Reanimate, so some of it may be familiar. Still fun to do the re-write. A friend suggested removing a reference to Gilligan’s Island as it seemed out of place with the feel of the story.

Some very good stories this month, really looked at difference aspects of the theme. I hope mine is as good as the median.

C. Lloyd Preville (clpreville) | 737 comments I just published my critiques for November stories in the critiques thread. I think it's better to do critiques after the voting is done, but that's just my own opinion.

With the grading categories I use, it's easy to rate stories and eliminate any problems with stories rating higher due to order or personal bias. Also, if everyone were to use a standard rating system like this, it would be very interesting to tabulate results, such as who had the most (or least) ratings for compliance with the story guidelines for the 2nd quarter of 2019. But again, this is just an idea that might be worthy of discussion.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
