Harry Potter is midway through his training as a wizard and his coming of age. Harry wants to get away from the pernicious Dursleys and go to the International Quidditch Cup. He wants to find out about the mysterious event that's supposed to take place at Hogwarts this year, an event involving two other rival schools of magic, and a competition that hasn't happened for a hundred years. He wants to be a normal, fourteen-year-old wizard. But unfortunately for Harry Potter, he's not normal - even by wizarding standards. And in his case, different can be deadly.

Yes you have the snitch but you also just simply lose. In this book they say: 'They just knew Ireland was stronger'. But wouldn't you want your team to have at least the opportunity to win? At a certain point Harry gets these socks from Dobby that he made himself and it's so cute. And then the book says: 'His other present were a lot better than Dobby's weird socks'. Like, is Harry really that mean? He knows how bad people can be, and this little elf actually made him something really nice, I expected him to be a bit more thankful? Especially since he also always seems to be happy with Molly's weird sweaters....? (hide spoiler)]

This book has everything. Amazing characters, world building, side storys, mystery etc. I believe this is one of the best HP books.

The thing that makes me sad is that the movie missed out on so many details and amazing storylines. I wish they would have just made a 12 hour movie including everything in the book. Also, this book really created some continuation problems.... I just really wanted Dobby and Winky to play a part in the movies. :(
Also, I loved the story about Krenk jr. escape and hated that they didn't put that in the movie.

I did that as well. I had a comment about Harry Potter 4-7 and all dates got changed except this one. I thought it was just because Goblet of fire was already starting in Nov. so it didn't really need to be changed.

Can I BR this with you guys if I get to it in time? I will be a first time reader (I knoooowwww.... Don't judge oops) since I always want to read books in their original language (English in this case) but when HP came out my English wasn't good enough yet so for the past 6 years or so that I have been able to I basically never got around to it..! Very excited though, I've been reading the first three books over the past 2 years and even though I, of course, know a lot that's going to happen I want to read how it happens :)

There's 37 chapters for over 600 pages, so I suppose it isn't that many really xD I've got about 150 pages left.

Barty Crouch Jr is such a great character (played excellently by David Tennant in the film, may I say) and I sort of wish he'd survived this book so we saw more of him-he's awful but very interesting. I also love/hate the scene in the graveyard. It's iconic but hard to read. RIP Cedric Diggory. (hide spoiler)]

I'm definitely struggling with the long chapters as well although sprinting with others is helping me to read through them as quickly as possible. I just finished chapter 9 (view spoiler)[DAMN THAT WAS CRAZY! It's been over a year since I read HP3 and I'd forgotten how immersive these books are. I'M LIVING FOR IT! The whole Quidditch World Cup was so cool to read about as well. Makes me wish I was there (before all hell broke loose at least) (hide spoiler)]
