I read this book about... ten years ago, maybe?

All I can remember is that it was about a man who wanted to be a comedian but he was really bad at it, so he investigated and was able to make the people laugh with just one small gesture.

There's this scene where he makes his boss sign a check by making him laugh until he turns purple or something like that and in the end, the man who can make everyone laugh, can't laugh himself...
