"Angel" tortured by shadow when secrets are told

Hi All,
A number of years ago (about 5-10) I read a book in the horror/paranormal genre. I unfortunately don't remember the author. All I can recall is that there is a character that is an angel. She is constantly accompanied by a shadow that will torture/attack her whenever she reveals a secret from heaven. The setting is modern. I'll update if I remember any more information.
