Where does Kim get her ideas for terms?

Hello all! I am so grateful to Kim for sharing with us the ways she picked main characters names. That was so sweet of you Kim. I have another question. Where does she come up with words that are not in our everyday vocabulary? Fortunately for me, I have started reading my books on Kindle. I discovered this wonderful tool. If I come across a word I don't know, I can poke it and the definition will come up. This is brilliant! However, what about the term runners? I have an idea about where it came from. My idea is that Kim founded in the old British murder mysteries where a runner is a policeman with the bow Street magistrates. Agree? Disagree? Please feel free to post your questions here as well! Cheers!
