message 5: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments I am forcing myself to use books I already own unless I can't find any to fit the prompt.

message 6: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 242 comments Kerri I start with that intention each year and might make it a month before I fail. I know I have books on my kindle and shelves that will fit all the prompts, but the newer titles are just too darn distracting. I hope you have better willpower than me!! 😂

message 7: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 85 comments Kerry, I like that idea and I wish you more success than I have ever had!

message 8: by Ann (new)

Ann (izesicle) | 19 comments I'm inspired by your plan!

message 9: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments Thank you all for the encouragement. I want to also read in order since I own the books. I hope I can stick with it.

message 10: by Kerry (last edited Jan 07, 2020 12:53PM) (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments I started a bit early on December 11 because I am reading War and Peace and won't be done until sometime in January. I am using it for prompt 3. A book that you are prompted to read because of something you read in 2019. Because of it's length, I may use it for 2 prompts.

Stephanie (scharle4) | 94 comments Reading my owned titles is one of my goals for this upcoming year too. I think your smart to start War & Peace! Best of luck to you!

message 12: by ToboReads (new)

ToboReads | 17 comments I'm also trying to work through my owned books. Took me a while to make my list to match them up, but better than spending more money...right? That's what i'm telling myself!

message 13: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Whitehead | 1 comments I am also determined to do the books I already have and to include all formats, including audio books. I have gone through all of the prompts and matched a book and this year I am determined not to be distracted or buy new books. Hmmm we will see....

message 14: by Kerry (last edited Feb 06, 2020 04:03AM) (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments I read The Alice Network which was on my Kindle. I want to give it 4 stars and undecided for which prompt.

This could work for several prompts:

2. A book by an author whose last name is one syllable. I want to use this one as I want to read in order.
or
6. A book with a mode of transportation on the cover
Or
10. A book that is between 400-600 pages
or
11. A book originally published in a year that is a prime number
or
27. A history or historical fiction
or
43 - A book related to one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse (death, war/conquest, famine, plague/pestilence) - War as it's set in WWI

message 15: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelly_s) | 41 comments Reading more from my owned books is also one of my goals this year and one of the reasons that I signed up for ATY 2020. It is definitely something I struggle with - I like to say that I have two very distinct hobbies: buying books and reading books...

Best of luck with your challenge this year!

message 16: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments I finished my 2nd book Do or Di and this will be used for the 1st prompt as there is no A T or Y in the title. This was stars as it was a predictable romance. I don't like romances but for some reason when I first purchased my kindle in 2012, I felt the need to get every free kindle book there was. I am totally regretting that now as I have 1840 books on it. So now down to 1839.

message 17: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments I read 2001: A Space Odyssey for prompt 2. A book by an author whose last name is one syllable as it's Clarke. I know this is a classic but I had a difficult time getting into it and only 2 stars for me. The main reason i read it was for the Pop Sugar Challenge for book with a robot, AI or cyborg so it definitely fit that prompt. If you're a Science fiction person, you may enjoy it.

message 18: by Kerry (last edited Jan 26, 2020 11:02AM) (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments I did it; I finished War and Peace on Jan 23. I enjoyed the story. My favorite characters were Princess Marya and Prince Nicholai. I really want to give it 4.5 stars. I'm using this for prompt 3. A book that you are prompted to read because of something
you read in 2019. I had read Les Mis and Count of Monte Cristo last year and wanted to read another big classic so that's why I chose this prompt.

Oh I own this on Kindle but mostly read the book that I borrowed from the library.

message 20: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments Prompt 4 finished. Book I owned - YES

I finished prompt 4. A book set in a place or time that you wouldn't want to live with 8 Places You Do Not Want To Wake Up At (Haunted Places Based On True Events) by Chris Jack This was a very short book but interesting. 3 stars because there were some grammatical errors. I learned of new places I would like to visit some day. This was a book I owned on my Kindle. I will keep it because of the references.

message 21: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments Read Circe by Madeline Miller Own? NO I read this for Pop Sugar for prompt 'Book that won an award in 2019' I don't own any books that won an award in 2019 so this was my pick. I did not like it and gave it 2 stars. I tried to like the character Circe but I just couldn't. This made me realize that I am not a mythology fan.

This can be used for the following prompts:

1. A book with a title that doesn't contain the letters A, T or Y

13. A prompt from a previous Around the Year in 52 Books challenge (2017: based on a myth)

19. A fantasy book

32. A book related to the 2020 Olympic Summer Games in Japan

34. A book from a genre or sub genre that starts with a letter in your name

44. A book related to witches

For now I am using Circe for prompt 34 because that's a harder one for me to fill at this point. M for Mythology
