Ross L | 5 comments The cover that i remember, has three men riding giant dogs with guns on a black background
No idea on title or author.
Read around 2005 but the book felt much older.
Main character was a military officer of a fallen empire who was trying to rebuild it. I think he had an AI helping him.
Technology used to be great but then fell apart. They rode giant dogs like horses instead of horses thats the main thing i remember haha.
Did focus on technology vs religion and vaguely christian vs Muslim conflicts
I only read the first book but i know it was a series because i remember seeing in the back there was more but i couldn't find them and it ended on a cliff hanger.

Adele | 1435 comments There are giant war dogs on a distant planet in The Book of Skaith series but the covers don't really match and the dogs don't appear on a cover until the second book: The Hounds of Skaith The Hounds of Skaith (The Book of Skaith, #2) by Leigh Brackett

Rod Brown (rodbrown) | 5 comments Not helpful for your search, but if the dog riding does it for you, seek out the old comic book appearances of DC Comics' Atomic Knights.

Bonnie | 292 comments I found this series, but can find no cover that matches your description.

Arcot, Morey and Wade a.k.a. The Black Star Series by John W. Campbell Jr.

Described in a wiki article as "a trio of heroes, Arcot, Morey and Wade, and their attempts to help a race of superdogs."

This is actually kinda similar to what the story was but this book was set on a different planet and they were a whole civilization. I just remember the giant dogs vividly because it was so different. Thanks for the suggestion though. I'll check it out i'm reading the wiki now.

This is similar but not it. The dogs were just like regular dogs mixed with horses. and the story focused more on the main character who was a general trying to rebuild a fallen empire. Imma check this story out though thank you for sharing!

No the dogs weren't super smart or magical. They were just like horses. and the story focused on one main character. I might check this story out. thank you though!
