My plans so far for 2020 are to try and only schedule 2/3 BR a month in advance.

I'm also going to try not to schedule too far ahead unless it's a series or an upcoming release I'm waiting for. I'm a mood reader so I often don't want to read the book anymore by the time it comes around if I schedule it 6 months in advance."

I'm planning to do exactly the same thing. However I also tried to do this last year as well and was failing hardcore by about May!! I love impromptu buddy reads. The only problem with that is since so many of us fill our schedules up so early in the year so few people have time to do them lol. I'm certainly one of the most guilty of doing this. I think that one year everyone should decide to not plan ahead at all, and all our buddy read should be decided no more than a week or two in advance (to give people a chance to get hold of the book).

Good luck sweet, Charlie! 😊💕🌸

I have been pushing myself to get all of my books read off the floor and piled all around. It’s not been fun reading even if I have read some good books. I’m getting mine done so next year I can read at leisure again.

I hope next year is better reading for you too 😊

@Hailee
We should do this! Spontaneous buddy reading would be so much fun.

Living the spontaneous life is easy... just don't check the master BR list until the beginning of each month and jump aboard... I do it quite often when books catch my eye... it's the easiest way to be spontaneous, and lets other plan books months in advance for your reading pleasure...

I'm certainly going to do my best to keep to spontaneity in 2020. We'll all just have to close our ears to the siren cry of the schedule ;-)

Thank you, Charlie 😊

I’m going to try to watch for you, Hailee and Siobhan buddy reads. I’m also going to do some outside the group with sweet, Tammie. There are reasons I stopped buddy reading in this group that only she knows about but I hope to just focus on my few sweet friends like y’all. Maybe we can all have fun again 😊💕

I actually did this for the first few months of the year. The problem came further down the line once I'd jumped aboard some series; then of course when it came to the sequels the schedule was already there lol. I suppose that is the inevitable thing with fantasy though.

That'd be great. Hopefully once you have wrestled your book piles into submission you'll be able to take advantage of some spontaneous reading and it'll be all the more relaxing for you. Fingers crossed!!

😂🤣. I’m wrestling hardcore!! I hope so too! I want next year to be a better more laid back year. A year of still being cancer free, reading less books so I can enjoy them when I read them and great buddy reads with sweet friends and peeps in general 😊

I think this gets easier the more series you read, because then you can fill your year just reading New Releases... it's half the reason I started abandoning series/genres... I have 40-50 new releases to worry about each year...

You're more than welcome in any buddy read I'm part of, lovely! ❤️

message 18: by Charlie (new)

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments @Iain I think I'll do that. browsing the master list is a great idea.

@Siobhan @ Hailee @Melissa If we all do spontaneous reads next year and none of all schedule reads in advance there won't be any schedule reads to jump into!

But seriously, I'm really looking forward to being able to go look at my shelves and just pick something out just because I fancy it. I haven't done that at all this year and I've really missed it.

Yes that is true, plus if we jump into a series we can just read the next book whenever we want, whether that is straight after we finish the previous one or after we've read a few other books rather than rigidly doing them on the same day on consecutive months when that might not be the most convenient time.

message 20: by Charlie (new)

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments @Hailee

Agreed about the sequels. I think being flexible will be important for me next year so I don't get frustrated with reading.

message 26: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments I am so bad at the BR game, I often forget that I have one, then I take so much time to read it because I have a lot of them and also I want to read a few things unplanned... I think maybe I'm going to do the only spontaneous BR thing. And the 3 per month policy is really appealing too (tho I fear 3 is too much for me) (yeah I know I'm THAT bad)

I'm well on my way to breaking my 2018 single month BR record this month, in my quest to beat Julia... at 54 books and 27 BRs including today's goals... I think I can hit a little over 30 BRs... I did 31 BRs last July, 30 last March, and 27 last August 2018... main difference is that BRs were 90% of my reads then and 50% now...

Be nice to be a bit more flexible again, come Halloween... finally catch up on WORM, hopefully...

For Albus and you:
(view spoiler)

Also, were you planning to continue the rest of the trilogy after Bear and the Nightingale?
I still need to read Books 2 and 3 and would like to complete the series. If you haven't already made other plans, shall we do one in Nov and one in Dec?

@Siobhan...I am sitting here with Anni and wearing the *skeptical face* 😄😂 but hey, I quite like having you in ALLLLLL the BRs...😘

Re-reading is my problem. I've got a lot of housework to do today so it's audiobook time. Instead of listening to something new I'm listening to something I've read 3 times before.

I think re-reading favourits is a good thing actually! It might not help me with my scary TBR pile, but reading what you're in the mood for keeps you happy and avoid reading slumps, so I think you shouldn't feel guilty but enjoy your re-read :)
