Welcome Zaara! Good luck with your climb.
Welcome Zaara! Good luck with your climb.
Hi Zaara. I like the choice of books on your new shelf. Several there that I would also like to read... To Kill a Mockingbird for instance, and Travels with Herodotus. Good luck!

Hey Zaara! Good luck with your challenge. I have read three books from your list and loved all three. Would love to hear your views on them :)
Srividya wrote: "Hey Zaara! Good luck with your challenge. I have read three books from your list and loved all three. Would love to hear your views on them :)"Thanks Sri! Lemme go see which three those are...
Let me know when you start the Susannah Clarke.
Will definitely let you know Zaara! Its To Kill a Mockingbird, Winter People and The Lions of Al Rassan :)
Hi Zaara! I read The Winthrop Woman years ago and really liked it, My Theodosia is also good. My fav book by Anya Seton though, is 'Katherine'. :-)
Cath wrote: "Hi Zaara! I read The Winthrop Woman years ago and really liked it, My Theodosia is also good. My fav book by Anya Seton though, is 'Katherine'. :-)"Yeah that'd be your favourite, CATH ;-) and not juat because of the name...it is easily her most celebrated work.
But this one's great too...I have read a lot of Tudor novels...but this is a period of history I haven't read much about and its fascinating...the things that go into nation-building...not just the great things...war and peace, religion, treaties and migrations but little things...livestock and herb gardens, letters and loved ones, hopes and heartaches. Most of all, courage and hard work.
I'm almost done with this one but had to take a couple of days break recently.
Thanks for cheering me on, Cath.
Lemme come visit your thread and see how you're getting on....
Good luck Zaara! :)Do you have a date for when you'll be reading TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD ? I have it on my list as well.

No I don't have a date for it yet but this month is a busy one. Any time after Jan 30 is great, if you'd like to read it together...
LOL... yeah I would like *Katherine* wouldn't I? ;-)You write about the appeal of historical writing *so* well. Perfectly expressed. One writer who does history (Henry VII period) very well too is C.J. Sansom. I don't know if you've tried any of his Matthew Shardlake books, but they're brilliant reads.
I've just finished my first book for Mount TBR so I'm happy with that.
Status update: 1/24The Winthrop Woman by Anya Seton. Counts towards the 2015 new to you challenge as well since this is both by an author and about a time in history that I haven't yet read about...although I do read a lot of historicals.
4.5 stars despite minor annoyances over sloppy editing in the ebook version.
Onto book 2, Travels with Herodotus...which has been languishing in my TBR pile since 2008 (imagine!) despite my owning a beautiful hardcover ed.
Cath wrote: "I've just finished my first book for Mount TBR so I'm happy with that."Congrats Cath. I'm one down too...status update above cuz I don't blog.
Gehna wrote: "Zaara, I see The Name Of Rose on your shelf... would you BR it with me? :)"Sure...it's a book that gets easier when shared...shall we do it in March? I have Mistborn with you in Feb....
First we will do Mistborn.... you said you will restart it, so restart it as I have exams in between.... you can catch up on that... I will be done with my exams by 15th March.... we will continue Mistborn from there, and then start up with Rose.....Clear? :P
I know, I muddled it up :P
Nopes..... I mean, read Mistborn at your ease till 15th of March..... I will be back then..... we will together continue Mistborn, and then start Rose once it is over..... now clear? :)
January update: 1. Finished The Winthrop Woman, Owned book, bought Nov 2014
2. 70% done with Travels with Herodotus, Owned book, bought 2008! :-0 Will finish this tonight.
3. 50% done with East of Eden, owned book, bought 2013.
