The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho by Paulo Coelho
Read: 17 Jan 2015
Rating: 2*

Everyone raves about this book but I was underwhelmed to say the least. It was a sweet story and I guess I could see the point - it was a kind of spiritual self-help manual dressed up as a fairy tale. But because I don't really buy into the whole premise of the God-driven soul and so forth, I found the book got tedious and boring, especially towards the end. There were a few aphorisms which one could jot down to remember, but I felt they were placed so obviously that I cringed. Perhaps because this book was written a while ago, much of what it is trying to say has become commonplace. Perhaps when it was first published, the inspirational story of the shepherd boy was something unique. But I, for one, was jolly pleased it was only 170-odd pages. I don't think I could have coped with much more.

Review: Wow, that was a really realistic book. I've read a lot of post-apocalyptic books and this maybe the most realistic one. An asteroid hits the moon and the moon moves closer to the earth which causes tsunamis, earthquakes, storms and volcano eruptions. It is a thing that could possibly happen.
It was somewhat funny how all the people made a celebration of it.I dont know what they expected to happen but it certainly wasnt that. I liked how Miranda's mother realized that they are going to need a lot of supplies for them to survive. I also liked how the family got closer and by the end of the book Jon had began thinking more like a grown up.
There were moments when I wanted to hit Miranda so bad. Every time she bitched about how things weren't fair and when she whined about the food. I get it but sometimes she didnt see that she wasnt the only one suffering. I also didnt like the end. It wasnt a one that made me immediately read the next book.
Overall I really liked it and will soon read the rest of the series to find out if things get better in the future.

I think some people love it and some hate it. It really wasn't my kind of thing at all. There probably was a stage in my life I would have really enjoyed it, but not now. Perhaps I am just too old and cynical!! But don't worry, it is a very quick read so if you aren't enjoying it, you won't be stuck with it for days on end!

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher by Jay Asher
(on the first page of the Borrowed list)

Finished 1 /22/15, 1 star

I hate this story with a passion. I hate the way it was told, I hate the angle it took to a very serious topic - teens suicide.
"When I'm gone, you'll all be sorry" attitude and the selfish, stupid, irreversible act done for lack of perspective and to teach a lesson to your peers. None of her reasons were worth it. They were an excuse to not dealing with problems and an easy way out.
I'm sure the author wanted me to feel sorry for the girl, but in a sense other than waste of a young life, I can't. In nature, the weakest specimens do not survive. I might be considered cynical, but it was a natural selection at work the way the story was told. I guess it's the price she payed when discovering that world doesn't revolve around you, it revolves around the Sun instead.

Review:
A quick funny read. I haven't personally seen her many times but the book was fun and easy to read, but there were some parts of the book I really didn't find interesting and was bored and wanted to move on. Some parts were really hilarious and LOL moments, and I liked the fact that in some cultural aspect I could relate to her. Overall, it makes me want to watch a little bit more of her on TV after reading this.

Read: 25/01/15
Rated: 4 stars
Review: I really liked it. The writing was really good, the characters were interesting and the plot was intriguing. But I dont have any strong feelings about it. This is my only problem. I'm interested in what is going to happen but I'm okay with not knowing.
I liked this version of the angel mythology, about the Grigori and how they must fight the exiles. It was a new look over the mythology.
I dont feel particularly strong about neither Phoenix nor Lincoln. I could see that there were something not right with Phoenix and that bugged me but at the same time I kind of liked him.
Violet bugged me a lot of the time but finally she embraced. I really liked that she told her best friend what was going on with her because in a lot of the books when something happens to the main character they just dont tell their friends or family and here she just told her and everything turned out beautifully.

I guess I have lost interest in this series. Rush and Blair get their happy ending but there is so many immature behavior and pointless actions provoked by useless offenses. Too mushy for my taste too. I think I have had my fill of those type YA books.

The Big Bad Wolf by James Patterson by James Patterson
#9 Alex Cross
Finished: 26 Jan 2015
Rating: 3*

Although this book has the usual Patterson pace and page turning plot line, I am not the biggest fan of the Alex Cross series. I find his children a bit annoying and there is something about him that just doesn't work for me. That's not to say I didn't enjoy this story of kidnapping and white slavery, but it's one of those books you can read and discard.

Honestly I do not know why I keep reading these books. I have given ever book in the series a two but for some reason I keep going. The main reason why I am not a fan is because all the books seem the same. Someone get kidnapped and they go on a epic quest to retrieve them. It is the same thing every damn book. The only difference is which character gets kidnapped.

Book: Lord of the Wolfyn (Royal House of Shadows, #3) by Jessica Andersen Lord of the Wolfyn by Jessica Andersen.
Date Read: 1/25/15
Rating: 4 Stars (3.5 Stars)
Theme: Book 3 of the Royal House of Shadows

Review:
An okay book. Now that I have had time to think about it. I am wondering why I gave it a higher rating. It is probably 3 stars at best if you think about the book. This was more fast action packed book, but it is pretty shallow in the sense of character development and not enough of romance. I would have preferred the hero (Dayn) and heroine (Reda) to spend more time together. There is not enough background information about both hero and heroine's past. It has been 20 years, and there is barely any mention of it. There is no mention of the time piece and if it is still relevant to the story or is it something that will come back in the last book. I liked it that it was loosely based on Little Red Riding Hood. I liked that it was moving toward finishing the series so things are beginning to happen. I can't wait to read the next book on Micah. I feel like I know the least about him since he was a kid when all the children were scattered for protection.

Review: I like it when you read a series and re-read the first book and see how everything started. There are all these signs that you missed the first time you were reading it and just thinking how stupid you could be.
This was like that too. I liked how everyone was so... innocent in the beginning. I liked to see the relationship between Clary and Jace grow and even the relationship between Alec and Magnum begin.
There was one thing that bothered me and that was when they were about to get the Cup and I was wondering... why didnt they just get the card with them to the Institute and take it out there instead they had to take it out in front of a stranger that they didnt trust and the end result was a big battle and Alec got baddly hurt. Why?
