R4: Vicious and Delicious (12)
Week 1, spot 11
by Colleen HooverFinished 11/18/14
5 stars (I would have given more, if possible)
What do you do when you have lost all you ever loved? You close yourself up, you don't let yourself feel anything anymore and you go on with your life ... or do you really?
It's by far the best book by Colleen Hoover. This woman can write beautiful prose. She made me cry, she broke my heart and put it back together at the end. No teenage drama this time, great characters and did I mention the absolutely beautiful prose alredy? I loved it! So much!
Sorry ladies...I have been catching up with shelving my books I have read this month since I had fallen way behind...I should have my review up tonight or tomorrow morning for sure.

An English Bride In Scotland by Lynsay Sands.Date Read: 11/15/14

Review:
Annabel has been training to be a nun all her life, only to suddenly find her mother at the convent to take her home and hours later she is told she is to wed a Scottish laird in the place of her sister who has run away. Ross MacKay, marries Annabel knowing she is the wrong sister and he takes her to Scotland. I felt really sorry for Annabel, and really disliked her parents and the convent life just wasn't for her. She had a very low self esteem of herself thanks to the abuse at the abbey and from her family. And I loved Ross for the hero because he really was nice to her and built up her self esteem. It was good to see Annabel come into her own. There was also a little mystery for she was kept being attacked by someone, but I think it could have been a stronger plot with something else than what happened at the end. It seemed a very weak ending and hence why I didn't give it 5 stars, but overall I love Lynsay Sands and her historical romances.

Just a reminder:Thanksgiving-Teams will roll the Friday before (11/21) two times for two spots. No roll on 11/28. Both book's deadline will be Friday (12/5) and then the game resumes it's normal schedule.
First rollRolled a 9 (4 + 5). We are now on spot 20
Second roll
Rolled a 5 (3+2). We are now on spot 25
If I understood correctly, we need to read two books by 12/05 for spots 20 and 25.
Do we have to read them in order or can I finish a book for a spot 26 first and then read a book for spot 21?
Skandia, am I understanding correctly...For the first book we can read #2 in a series, or #20, or a standalone or a book with a silhouette on the cover.
For the second book we can read #2, #5, #25 or a book from the 'Free' list linked in the rules thread.
Just want to get that clear so I know what I am choosing!
I think I'll do
as the first one (with a silhouette) but I'll have to think about the second.

Review: To be honest, I was a little dissapointed with this book. After reading the first one, and loving it, I expected to love this more. But it didnt happen. I wasnt taken with the book. I didnt felt the need to finish it in one sitting. But other than that it was still fun and in places exciting.
Justin changed a little too fast. And Allie frustruted me soo much in some places. I liked them both.
Overall, I really liked the book, wasnt my favorite, there were some loose ends I needed to be tightened. I will read the third book.

What a shame about this book! The whole premise was great - London Murder Squad, working in the wake of Jack the Ripper, and dealing with the inevitable follow up crimes in the city. But it was just so poorly written. Normally, I wouldn't care where a writer was from, but this was so obviously an American from the twenty first century attempting to write about 1890's London and falling short on the research. The anachronisms were intensely annoying - you only need to read Dickens to know that no-one was 'stressed' in those days and there was no such concept as a 'teenage girl'. As for 'apartments', even now they aren't really called that in Britain. But it wasn't just that. Sure, we knew who the killer was from the outset, but frankly, most of the characters would have had to have been comatose not to spot him, he was just so obvious. And the dialogue - urgh! It sounded like the author had watched a couple of episodes of 'Sherlock' and thought 'yep, I know enough about nineteenth century London now, I'll write a novel'. Very, very disappointing.

Review:I am in tears. I cant believe its all over. I dont want to believe that. This is the first book that has my heart pounding so loud. There were so many epic and emotional moments. Like when all the demigods and gods were fighting together, or when they all came together to fight Gaya... and when Leo... no. This book was phenomenal. There were however some things I didnt like: There were no Percy, Anabeth, Hazel, Frank chapters, we didnt see what happens with Reyna's love life, we dont see Leo letting everyone know that he isnt dead. It would have ended so much better for me if Leo and Calypso returned to Camp Half-Blood while the roman demigods were still there and have everyone hugging and celebrating...
(view spoiler)
Overall I loved every character, every moment, every little thing about this series and am really sad that is oficially over. I would really, REALLY love if there was just a short novel or something telling what happened with Reyna, Niko, Leo and Calypso... just a short one... or a whole book... please?["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Surprisingly good romantic suspense about a woman relocated to small town in Idaho under witness protection program with couple of hired killers trying to reveal her location and silence her as a witness before a mob trial.
I liked the small town setting, well written characters and although I was kind of guessing the plot twist, it didn't annoy me as usually it would. The epilogue was sweet and I liked authors style a lot.
Spot #25
(The Tale of Lunarmorte #2) by Samantha YoungFinished 12/4/14, 3 stars
Half Daylight, half Midnight blood, Caia is torn now between her loyalty to her werewolf pack and responsibilities to use her new powers to help The Daylight Coven fight the Midnights.
With his mate Lucien, she's brought to the Coven headquarters in Paris to train her magic side and help with the war.
I loved the first book in series and I love Samantha Young's writing but in this book too many things bothered me. Caia and Lucien were so stubbornly stupid towards each other and this was really frustrating. I didn't care much for the Coven politics and there was too little about the Errante pack in this second book. I just didn't like the turn the story took in general and there were too many random plot lines left unexplained. Maybe in the next book I'll get my answers if I'll bother to pick it up eventually.
Just a reminder, we roll tomorrow. If anyone has a team mate that hasn't checked in lately, captains go ahead and send a pm.

HAve you read anything else by LMR? Was it as good as Woman on the Run?
Whatever I have read so far is pretty good...there isn't a book I don't like by her. I have read the midnight series: Midnight Man Midnight Run Midnight Angel. The first I gave a 4 stars, but the second and third book were 5 stars. A Fine Specimen - 5 Stars.

Spot 25 - #2 Series
by Deanna Raybourn (Lady Julia Grey #2)Completed: 4 Dec 2014
Rating: ★★★★
It has been years since I read the first one of this series and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed them. I love Lady Julia, and I love the undercurrent of passion between her and Nicholas Brisbane. In this book, the local curate is murdered in the March Abbey and it is up to Julia and Brisbane to try to work out who did it. Of course, there are the inevitable arguments, kisses and misunderstandings between them but that it what makes this series so wonderful. It was just the kind of book I wanted to read right now.

Review:
I love books with kids and this one started out great as well when baby Joe wanders into Mollly's yard and asks if she is his momma. Very Cute beginning with a very cute dad. Both Molly and Joseph have a lot of baggage, but they seem to work through it. My problem was that there were little side things that were just left unsaid or unresolved and I was not really fond of the ending. But I did love Joe.

Review:
I think I naturally shy of giving books a 1 star because even know I want to give the book 2 stars, which I don't think the book deserves. Xaviero was just an plain old jerk, who looked down on Cathy and the way he talked to her just got on my nerves. It took some real effort to finish the book. Thank god it really was not all that long. Cathy started off nice, but she never made any demands on him whatsoever, always found an excuse the he is a prince he doesn't know any betters. I am sorry manners are pretty much universal. She keeps talking herself into all of the hero's plan, I mean he changed her name to Catherine because it sounds more royal than cathy...I mean she should at least put up more of a fight. By the time, Cathy got around to doing something it was too late for me to care anymore.

okay we are just missing one review from Siriusedward and I have PM'd her for spot 20. After that I will roll.
I hope she's ok and has a book read and just needs to post a review, otherwise we might lose a turn and that would be so not good.
I looked at the book she wanted to use and it has a rating on it so I am pretty sure she read it and probably thought she posted the review. if I dont hear from her by this afternoon we will just use the free pass we have.
okay its almost midnight in India so I am guessing siriusedward hasn't seen my message since most of us want to read on...so I am using our free pass to roll. I think you guys would be okay with it
In the event that she does post by the end of tonight. Y'all can roll again and get the pass back if you want.
I rolled 4 + 6 = 10. So now we are on spot 35. So you can read book 3 or 5 in the series OR read a book by an author starting with D.

Rogue Male #1
It is 1939, and our unnamed narrator is on the run. He was caught with his rifle aimed at a certain European dictator. He was tortured and left for dead, but somehow he managed to escape. But even escaping from the unnamed European country does not mean safety. He arrives in England, and they are still on his tail. He knows if they catch him, they will kill him. Can he outfox them? This book is a fantastic, classic psychological thriller. It makes the film, The Fugitive, feel tame. I love the way you never know his name, who the dictator was or what country is after him (although considering the date, you can pretty much guess) and I love how you never even know his motive until the very end. This is original, on-the-edge-of-your-seat writing. Brilliant.
