During the blackout in World War II London a bizarre murder takes place on a bridge. There were two listeners nearby and, when a match was struck, the fantastic face of the murderer was briefly seen. Can Chief Inspector MacDonald of the Metropolitan Police solve the crime?

This is a great read, not just for the whodunnit, but also for the look at London during the Blitz. The characters are interesting and the story gives a glimpse into how ordinary people's lives were affected by the bombing and the blackout.
