✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Ok... I've updated, don't think I've missed any buddy reads but let me know if I have! I've fitted the books into the last page on the spreadsheet which is the christmas challenge page, looks like we need three more colours and the last two chimney words as I fitted 'After Me' into the direction one so that's done :)

I'm so happy I was able to read a book, After Me, to help with the Christmas challenge! It was unintentional but still! ;)

message 172: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 757 comments I finished reading Maplecroft (The Borden Dispatches #1) by Cherie Priest , which is 20 points for page count (448 pages in Kindle version) and it was BOM, I took the part in the discussion, so plus 30 points and it counts toward our quest with purple cover :)

message 173: by [deleted user] (new)

Anima wrote: "Did you like it, Kelsi? I'm wondering about reading this one as I have read mixed reviews."

It was ok, I gave it 3 stars. It had a promising start and a good ending but it just felt like it was missing something that his earlier works had. It's my first time reading one of his newer books and it just doesn't have the same feeling to it, if that makes sense.

message 174: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 757 comments I think I can agree with you. I have read several of the newer once recently, and to be honest, none of them has made much impression on me (perhaps, apart from Joyland, but it is not a horror story). Thanks for the info. I won't hurry to read it then :)

message 175: by [deleted user] (new)

No problem! I will have to check out Joyland if it is better than :)

message 176: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 757 comments I really liked this story, but it is not a typical horror, rather a mixture of coming or age and thriller story set in 70s.

message 177: by [deleted user] (new)

I have it on my TBR, it's just one of those ones that keeps getting bumped! Now that I know it's good though I will bump it up.

message 178: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments I'm not a massive King fan, I don't like horror, but I did enjoy Mr Mercedes and 22/11/63 as they weren't horror as such.

message 179: by [deleted user] (new)

I am looking forward to reading Mr. Mercedes, I'm hoping to get to it in the early new year. I have only been reading King for the last year or so, I have really enjoyed a lot of his books which really surprised me as I don't really consider myself a big horror person either.

message 180: by Heather (new)

Heather | 529 comments Maplecroft (The Borden Dispatches #1) by Cherie Priest
435 pages, 20 points

One Song Away by Molli Moran
200 pages, 20 points

message 181: by Heather (new)

Heather | 529 comments Yay! I saw this weeks posting.... We aren't last anymore! I don't read a lot of huge books like it seems many of you do but I read a lot of 20 point books. Hopefully, I'm helping a little. :)

message 182: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 757 comments I believe that every book is a next step to our higher position in the rankings, so definitely, Heather, you are helping a lot :)!!! I'm so proud of our team :)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Hi Reva, Thanks for setting up your shelf. Unfortunately, the spreadsheet will only accept books with a read date from 8/11 onwards. I've added what I can but all the books need a read date for them to count I'm afraid. Also, you've got a lot of books on the list which aren't on the shelf.

That's fine, I just wanted to check :) I've had occasions where I've added books to shelves only to find they hadn't done what I wanted. So no pressure!!

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments I've just finished Elisabeth Sladen The Autobiography by Elisabeth Sladen and the ending has left me wanting to cry. I knew when I started reading it that she died a few years ago but it's just such a moving epilogue. Definitely recommend it, especially if you're a Dr Who fan!

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Wow Reva, I've just added all the books I can to your list on the spreadsheet (I may have missed some, it's getting late here!) Do you find reading series one after another is the best way for you? And, what did you think of the rest of the Virals series? I loved the first one but haven't found the second yet (and discovered the third and fourth 20 minutes ago!!)

It depends what I'm in the mood for. If it gets to be repetitious, I'll take a break and return to a series at a later time. However if I wait too long, I sometime find I need to re-read the earlier books. LOL

I liked the Viral Series and await the next one #5 Terminal.

BTW I found a few more to add to the shelf. I have thousands of books to add to GR. I just assumed the system noted when you marked a book 'read'. I had no idea that a finish date was required. I guess I'll be adding any new ones as I go along.

Is there any way to "batch add" dates? I've tried but it looks like they need to be done singly. It would be helpful when finding a series that I've read years ago to mass date them.

No,not really. I barely made it through since I didn't really care for it. It probably would've been a dnf for me if I didn't HAVE to finish for our challenge.

You only 'have' to add read dates to the ones for the challenge, for your own shelves and books you read a while ago, you don't have to unless you really want to. The dates for the challenge ones are so we know when they were finished for points :) As for batch dating, I don't think you can but you can 'batch edit' books onto shelves by using the 'batch edit' button on the my books page. If that makes sense?
