But Audible uses regions, and I have to strip it of its restriction and convert it to MP3. Not everybody is fine with that.

I didn't know that. I use global site which is US site and it works fine for me.

I think it might depend on if you have an Amazon for your country. I'm in the UK so am restricted to buying digital content from this site (unless I lie and give them a US address). It will only work in the UK/ can only be gifted to UK

Hello everyone!Some of you might recognize my name from past years or we are even friends here on GR :)
Sadly, I'm not participating this year but I wanted to wish you all lots of fun!! This group of people right here is among the most generous I have ever encountered - online and in real life - and I know you all will have an awesome time during this month of gifting and spreading the Christmas Cheer :) And I know you all will help me to get into the Christmas spirit after a busy and hectic year when I see the joy of giving and receiving gifts! And I'm sure there will be lots of gifts like every year ;) After all, it has already started on the first day, lol!
Hopefully, something new will come up next year that will make gifting internationally easier and then I'm quite sure I will join you again :)

The only thing that happens every now and then is that a book isn't available on the German or UK site but I was still able to buy it on the US site.

For gifting audiobooks, I just go to Audible US, UK or DE and gift from there. Gifting between countries doesn't work but since I'm able to buy from all three stores, gifting and receiving gifts isn't a problem for me. I'm not so lucky when it comes to Amazon. The German Amazon store has introduced gifting sometime this year, I think, but I believe you have to be able to buy digital content there to actually gift an ebook. That's why I can use Amazon US to buy physical books, for example, but it won't allow me to gift ebooks because I'm not allowed to buy digital content through their site :(

And I've gifted you books on the Audible site and I'm in the US and you're in Germany, and you've done the same so I don't think it's regions, though I don't know why some are having problems. Maybe Heather can answer that.
Maybe audiobooks aren't bound by the same publishing laws as ebooks & print? Because that's why you can't buy books for someone in another country on Amazon.

I was gifted 2 books yesterday on Amazon and it wouldn't let me accept them because I'm in Australia, I worked out a work around but it's frustrating.
I use Amazon US for ebooks so I thought I would be ok but I had to get a gift certificate instead of the book and then actually buy them with the certificate.
I understand about licensing but it's kind of silly when it allows me to buy the book with the same certificate :-)

I talked to my husband (who is on the tech team at Audible ;) - lucky me!) and he said if your country has the rights to that book, you can gift from Amazon US. So if the audiobook has distribution rights in that country, you can get it from the US site. Some publishers sell their rights to other distributors in other countries so you can't gift there. Self published should be all fine!

Itās called Chirp, and you select what genres you like and theyāll send you daily deals on audiobooks!

I slipped and fell into the mm reading hole this year and so I do primarily read that. At least, this year. But I do also enjoy YA, mysteries, horror and general fiction. New friends are always good. š

Chirp is only for the US. They let you buy the ebook even if you are from another country but won't let you use the app. LOL
