Hi Courtney - no. The members in this challenge can only choose what is on your shelf. The only 'give' is if they mistook where you are up to in a series, you can then go with whichever next book you are up to if they didn't correctly identify it.
The monthly PIFM is more along those new recs line. This is more to clear your TBR pile ;)
I'd like to do bonus picks also, please

Hi Jane! Thanks for clarifying! Ok - I'm still in with this one, since it definitely sounds like it would be a fun way to ease myself into the group :) I think I'll try a PIFM challenge after I try this one, though!

OK now I'm embarressed! Sorry I must have copy and pasted wrong. The royalty one was for another challenge...whoopsie!!! But yet you linked to the right shelf...I'm debating on bonus picks right now...what is the requirement for bonus picks?
No probs Melissa - I just went to your bookshelves to find the right one, but wanted you to check :)The bonus picks - if you sign up for this you essentially join a second group, but that group doesn't get broken down. We all pick for each other no matter how many join in the bonus picks. And if you have double-ups between your allocated group and the bonus group, you have to do a second set of picks different to the allocated group picks.
Hope that makes sense :)
(Basically some members wanted to keep the fun going, and have more than 15-20 picks.)

I know we have to read 5 books of the other is the a number we have to read for bonus picks?
No number on the bonus picks - they are literally bonus picks for you to go through over the two months if you have spare time :)
I find that the added picks give me more flexibility on my challenges. I try to work more on my original group books, but often find that they don't work for some of my challenges - the second may work :) Also, it allows for my moods - more books to pick from depending on what I feel like reading...

OK, I'm in again! I'm already stressing about getting all the Christmas knitting done, so I think I'll just stick with the basic challenge, no bonus picks. That's great! Just don't start picking yet - I'm sure everyone's list will change before I put up the groups! (Mine definitely will ;)
I can't resist tinkering with my list until right up to picking time. Partially because as I'm going through my list I think "gee, that kind of sounds good" and then I end up reading a book or two off the list. :P
I've changed my shelf during picking! If a book gets picked once or twice and I'm not excited or even happy about it - off the list it goes! Sometimes I think I want to read it and then when faced with the possibility of really doing it, I realize I'm not in the mood. Chances are I would be happy if I did read it, but that book just isn't as much on my radar as I thought it was.
I do that too Kat and Becky. I'm particularly bad with thinking I want to read a book, but I don't really. It stays on the picking list but I keep ignoring it during each successive challenge. I'm trying to be better about that, but its an uphill battle ;)
I've started looking carefully at the oldest couple of books on my list. Several people like to pick the book that's been on your shelf the longest. It's really easy to look at one book out of a list of 100 and say "yeah, I really ought to get to this one." But it's not always as interesting when you realize there's a pretty good chance someone might actually pick it for you. Sometimes a particular book has lingered on the TBR for a reason.

I read a ton and can always use some more suggestions. I have a question, though - can people recommend books (based on what's on your picking shelf) that are not actually on your picking shelf? For example, if they see a series I'm reading and they know of another similar series that I probably would like - can they recommend that?
