Are there common characters or linked storyline between these books, or is it only a common theme that makes them a series?

A common theme: they are twisted tales (aka classic fairytales with one event changed such as What would have happened if Anna and Elsa never met). But they are presented as a series by the publishing house and treated as such in all marketing campaigns.
