I thought I'd start this final section a little early. I am not quite finished, but we've identified the guilty party.

I will leave it there for the moment (till I've actually finished), and just comment on how I am adoring the newly found stray dog, and his friend, the cat Rubbish!

Non-spoiler here -- I did not see it coming. Perp was totally off my list.

Mini-spoiler (sorta seen this coming. ;-) Poor (now happy) Rubbish and Hoover. They are in! as they've captured Mattie's heart like she seems to have done with Hurley. Yes, we love the cat-doggy duo!

I finished last night and I admit I did like the tricks at the ending--just when you though you had already heard the finish!

I guess the deaths in the car were unrelated to the main mystery, other than to provide another opportunity to embarrass Mattie! Or perhaps just to provide some possible challenge to Hurley, for Mattie's affection.

I guess there are a number of books in the series following this, the second one. Anyone read any of them yet?

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments I kept going and am now on the fifth, Board Stiff. I want to go back and re-read the first, but haven't yet. And by reading I mean listening, lol, Audible versions are good in this series and I needed new books to listen to. :D

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments The car deaths provided a distraction from the original murder, and I think gave us more interactions with Mattie/Hurley and also with Allison, plus the aforementioned embarrassment of Mattie! And that resolved itself quite nicely with the reveal of the will!

LOL on the funeral procession scene...except for the fight. Am I the only one who abhors boxing, wrestling? (But murdering the character is okay? LOL)?

I thought the repeated antagonism (and fight) between the family members was a little too much. Are people really this antagonistic toward one another?

I certainly hope not, lol! Incredibly greedy!

I would've loved that scene more if it ended w/the procession showing Hurley and the rest chuckling at Mattie and the bru ha ha she caused and then directing the funeral cars away. That would've lightened it up before the attack (on Hurley) took place. But that's just my opinion.

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Ok, I'm done! Thought I'd jump to the end of the discussion. I was surprised by killer since I had a few other suspects in mind.
I think that in this series there might always be a side mystery relating to the main character's profession. In other cozies they have other professions and side stories relating to their jobs so I don't mind it at all. Also, the side story of the car crash brought in a character that asked Mattie out on a date and made Hurley a bit jealous so maybe that was done to further the romance story line along a bit. I will probably read more in this series as time allows.

Agreed as usually it's the female who's the jealous one. With Scared Stiff, it's mutual.
