The author is a great storyteller with gripping scenes and a disturbing story that depicts the devastating risks to runaways and the effects of human trafficking on them. The plot moves at a fast pace with some twists and turns. However, the antagonist was a little too predictable.

Lol. Interesting. I wonder if their thoughts would vary according to their genres?

The Romance novel: when will I meet my reader and live HEA as her favourite book?

The Crime Thriller: will my turn come sooner if I murder some of the other TBR books?

And so on :-)

OMG... I love that, so great! I didn't think about that at all.

I did think about voices and accents. How would a mystery sound as opposed to a romance as opposed to non-fiction, etc. -- like the main character? The author? Something different based on the cover or genre? Completely opposite from what one would think? Would they be based on the age of the book or of the characters or genre?

Same with personalities... Would kids' books be more childlike? Wouldn't it be funny if he/she was a grumpy old man/woman?

Fun.

The author does a good job of balancing the shocking events against the mystery of determining who to trust and who is the killer. Exceptional characters, intense fight scenes, bitter cold, snow, ice, horrible deaths, and an absorbing plot are combined with a protagonist who is far from perfect and a killer with one or more unknown motives. The story has plenty of layers and is quite dark and horrifying at times.

This is the second book in the New Orleans romantic suspense series that is also partly a police procedural and a private investigator crime novel.

The prologue immediately grabbed my attention and the story continues with action, investigation by both the police and the private investigation firm, and plenty of twists and turns. The novel builds suspense in a way that pulls readers into the lives of the characters. The plot is full of chasing down leads and interviewing people as well as plenty of danger for those involved.
