Anna Walls (annalwalls) I'll share anything. Visit my blog - http://annalwalls.blogspot.com/ - so far I've posted whatever strikes my fancy but I'm certainly up for suggestions.

S.M. Carrière (smcarriere) I do let others read my work, but I expect them to read it critically... i consider that editing, not promotion!

message 153: by Anna (new)

Anna Walls (annalwalls) Unless of course they tell their friends how they liked what they just edited. Right Sonia. Thanks for visiting my blog, by the way. I'm glad someone stops by once in a while.

message 154: by S.M. (new)

S.M. Carrière (smcarriere) lol. I mightn't always comment, but I'm generally there every day (except for weekends!).

message 155: by Anna (new)

Anna Walls (annalwalls) Great. I guess I'll have to try to put something new up everyday (almost)

S.M. Carrière (smcarriere) Anna wrote: "Unless of course they tell their friends how they liked what they just edited. Right Sonia. Thanks for visiting my blog, by the way. I'm glad someone stops by once in a while."

That is just a side-effect, a bonus, I suppose and I don't deliberately hand out stuff for others to edit in the hope that they'll tell their friends they liked it.

message 157: by Anna (new)

Anna Walls (annalwalls) See there? 2 pluses. Improved writing and a slightly larger reputation. Just keep blowing the bubble a little bigger. As long as you keep it 'not deliberate' it's all pluses.

Joe Vadalma (joevadalma) | 25 comments The secret to self promotion is to give something that the person you want to reach might like. Whenever I promote a book, I include an excerpt. My web site contains a new short story every month, excerpts from all my novels, a serial episode and other goodies.

Papa Joe http://papajoesfantasticworld.com

message 159: by Anna (new)

Anna Walls (annalwalls) I've started to do much the same thing on my blog. I've posted several excerpts, pretty much as the mood struck me, from whatever I happen to be working on at the time. I just posted one from my published book last night.

message 161: by Tod (new)

Tod Langley (todlangley) | 74 comments I actually received feedback from two people on my author blogs. They posed tough questions and all I could do was write about my own experiences.

Talk about shameless - I made book signing flyers for my Halloween event at Barnes and Nobles and then walked throughout Purdue University posting them. I also went to local stores and restaurants and had them taped to the windows. It was FUN walking through the ole grounds and covering up other advertisements with some of my own.

All that effort to sell the 15 copies the store has in stock!

message 162: by Anna (new)

Anna Walls (annalwalls) I'm envious. All I could do is staple such posters to trees - no one would see them except for maybe a passing moose or bear. For some reason, they just aren't interested in reading my books. (ha)

message 163: by Tod (new)

Tod Langley (todlangley) | 74 comments But it would still be fun, right? and it makes you feel empowered against the man (whomever that might be)...in your case, it might still be a moose, but hey, it's still movement in the right direction.

Sorry, that might not be too funny.

Email me a flyer, Anna. The next time I am around a metro area I promise to post them.

message 164: by Anna (new)

Anna Walls (annalwalls) I've developed a healthy sense of humor else I wouldn't have thought of stabling posters to the trees for only the bears to read. Now I'll have to design a flyer I can email. ;)

Marc (authorguy) | 97 comments I was in Collingswood NJ last week selling books at their Book Festival. Today I find my reviews are being followed by a man from southern NJ. Everything builds on everything else.

message 166: by S.M. (new)

S.M. Carrière (smcarriere) It seems like it. I remember a person posting on my blog from Brazil. I had no idea anyone from Brazil would ever bother to read my blog. I wonder if he still is....

message 167: by Anna (new)

Anna Walls (annalwalls) It's a small world. Nowadays, everyone is your next door neighbor. I challenge any next door neighbor of mine to stop by for a cup of coffee. The pot is always on. My husband drinks coffee nonstop.

Tod Langley (todlangley) | 74 comments I've just posted a discussion on the use of allegory in modern fantasy fiction. You can find it under my profile or within the SF/F - Our Books - Prince Kristian's Honor. It's also on www.todlangley.com.

Thanks

Anna Walls (annalwalls) I just posted the first chapter of my book KING BY RIGHT OF BLOOD AND MIGHT on my blog under my profile. I'd love it if you'd all stop by and give it a look-see. I can't wait to hear what you have to say.

message 170: by Jerry (new)

Jerry Travis (jerrytravis) | 6 comments The first volume of my science fiction trilogy has just come out in paperback and the others will be following shortly. I just sent the second book to the publisher this week. All three volumes are currently available for the Kindle electronic reader. They get into some pretty good speculative fiction about why we perceive the universe as we do, and how we might look at it differently.

I don't dwell on the science a lot though. The first book contains the most, and it doesn't really even get into it until the second half. I feel it's more important to focus on the story.

As a promotional, I'm giving away ten copies of the paperback version right here on Goodreads. Here's the link:

http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sho...

Here's the back cover text:

In the 18th century, Lady Farrell and her handmaiden, Ellen, befriend Maria, an abused girl who stows away aboard their sailing ship. The Lady is on her way to Venice, where she is to be wed to Count Marcel. However, their ship falls under attack by pirates, starting an epic science fiction adventure that spans some 733 years! The three women are picked up by a time traveling military submarine, and taken back to its home base in the year of 2080. Not only is Lady Farrell’s marriage thwarted, but she and her companions also have to learn how to deal with the changes in politics, technology, philosophy, religion, and just about every other area of human endeavor. Ellen, who has fallen in love with the captain of the ill-fated sailing ship, has to find a way to cope with his loss. And as for Maria, will she ever be able to escape the shadows of her past?

S.M. Carrière (smcarriere) That sounds pretty awesome! Congrats on getting published!

message 172: by Anna (new)

Anna Walls (annalwalls) Congratulation, Jerry. It really does sound great. I hope you make it to the big-time.

message 173: by Jerry (new)

Jerry Travis (jerrytravis) | 6 comments Thanks for the encouragement, Sonia and Anna! Several of us really put our hearts into this, and we're a bit anxious to see how it does. It's our little part in helping "make the world a better place", and entertain at the same time.

message 174: by Anna (new)

Anna Walls (annalwalls) Believe me, Jerry, most authors pour their heart and soul into their work. It's so great that you get to see a little success with yours. Keep writing and allow the rest of us to taste your dust.

glitrbug Hi, I bought myself a Kindle last spring and it's really changed the way I buy and read books. Now when it's below zero out and there's not a darn thing on TV, I can just go to the Amazon site, find a book and have it in the Kindle in a jot. What this is leading up to is I wanted to make sure you knew about Amazon's new 70% royalties option. Here's a nice write up. http://kindlehomepage.blogspot.com/20...
I don't work for them but I've read 13 books so far this year. LOL That entitles me to an opinion.

Curly Raphino (inkwellmarvels) | 4 comments Hello all!

My name is Curly Raphino. I am a fantasy writer myself and I just finished my first fantasy novel Fire in the Ocean: A New Testament. This is the first installment of a three part series that accounts for God's true intentions for creating mankind (well, at least my interpretation). The story merges Greek Mythology and prominent figures of Christianity to breathe new life into the tale of creation. At the same time it explains the coming of age of the legendary King Triton of the sea. Everything you thought you knew about Greek Mythology or Christianity for that matter will be challenged, because in this story when Poseidon meets Lucifer all hell breaks loose -- literally. I'm looking to get some reviews and feedback from true avid fantasy readers, so check out the official website www.FireInTheOcean.com or browse the blog site www.FireInTheOcean.com/wordpress and let let me know what you think.

Cliff Scovell (CMScovell) | 16 comments Hello Goodreads authors and readers.

My sci-fi novel, Prison Earth - Not Guilty as Charged, is an action adventure based on the premise that Earth is a prison colony in which an alien people implant the souls of their criminals into humanoid bodies to live among us. The jailers manipulate their prisoner's lives in order to make them better people.

However, this well-managed system breaks down when another alien species kidnaps a prisoner believed to hold the key to a device powerful enough to destroy our part of the universe.

Now humans and aliens must race to keep the key from opening the device, and ending life as we know it.

You can find Prison Earth at Amazon.com in paperback and Kindle formats.

The 2010 Next Generation Indie Book Awards committee selected Prison Earth - Not Guilty as Charged as a finalist in the science fiction category.

For more information, and some free short stories, check out my web sites at www.prison-earth.com

Thanks for letting me post here.

C.C. Cole (authorcccole) | 30 comments I agree! My husband gave me a kindle, then my Mom stole it so he got me another one. It's a great way to keep multiple books "Compact" and I do read more now. I highly recommend kindle readers. Sure, I like "book" forms, but space in the house seems to be taken up one way or another, so Kindle/ebooks are a great option!

I don't work for them either..

Brendan Carroll (brendancarroll) | 26 comments The Red Cross of Gold XVIII:. The Company of Women is now available at the Kindle store. The battle heats up in the underworld and things worsen in the overworld as the Fox closes its fist on the Order's throat.

The Company of Women

“You can leave me here and go for help,” Omar told him. “Just give me my sword before you go.” He reached up for the hilt, but could not pull the heavy blade from behind his back. “Don’t leave me unarmed.”
“You can’t do anything with that sword,” Luke told him miserably.
“I can hold it. That will be a comfort,” Omar told him. “Now just give it to me and let me die honorably, my uncle. Tell my father that I died with honor.”
Luke rolled his eyes and got up. He muttered under his breath about how much honor Lemarik and his father had put into abandoning them. He pulled the great blade from the sheath and placed the hilt in the Prophet’s hands then ran back to the gate and took a quick peek out onto the plain. A strange misty fog was rising up and over the cliff, spreading out over the open expanse.
“Great. Just great!”
Luke’s last hopes faded as he heard low rumbling noises from the direction of the source of the fog. He could see no sign of life on the battlefield in front of the wall. The fog had already drifted in far enough to obscure the line of colorful tents and pennants in the distance where the Tuathan encampment was situated. He hurried back to Omar and knelt beside him again.
“What did you see?” Omar’s eyes had cleared and he had a strange expression on his face.
“Nothing,” Luke lied to him. “Now look, you can’t stay here. I’m going back to the keep. I’m going to find something to tie you on the horse and then we’ll make a dash for the forest. I didn’t see any Tuathans. We might be able to ride straight through.”

Gary Ballard (gary_ballard) | 2 comments Amazon has put my eBook only compilation of my first two novels on sale for only $2.79! Great deal on two critically-acclaimed cyberpunk novels in one eBook!

The Bridge Chronicles, Books 1 & 2
This collection is available as an eBook only, a fantastic collection of Books 1 & 2 of the critically-acclaimed cyberpunk series, The Bridge Chronicles, starring Artemis Bridge, the amoral fixer of the future. It contains the full text of both Under the Amoral Bridge and The Know Circuit, as well as two short stories that were only available in the published editions.

Under the Amoral Bridge

Artemis Bridge is the know-who, go-to guy, the amoral fixer in 2028 Los Angeles with the connection for any illicit desire no matter how depraved. You need it, he can get it without questions or judgment. He prides himself on staying detached from the depravity, untouched by the filth, untouchable by the law. When a young hacker is assassinated before his eyes, he is burdened with a scandalous video of the mayor on the eve of the city's most important election of the century. With digital assassins and murderous thugs dogging his every step, he has only days before the corrupt mayor is re-elected, handing the Chronosoft Corporation complete control of the city. Unable to sell the video, he is forced further into a complex conspiracy. This taut futuristic thriller is the debut novel by Gary A. Ballard, a rising new talent in the cyberpunk genre.

"...well written and a joy to read, Ballard paints imaginative scenarios and environments"

"Ballard does a complete and thorough job of world building."

The Know Circuit

Artemis Bridge can get you what you need no matter how immoral or illegal, no questions asked. With practiced detachment, he keeps everyone around him at arm's length. But when the city of Boulder is trapped in a mysterious dome, he must set aside his detachment to help his bodyguard Aristotle's search for his missing grandmother. Every step he takes towards the dome deepens the mystery, as he is compelled to seek out the source of the strange happenings. Flaming dragons, cars transformed into robotic golems, a corporate- military quarantine and disturbing visions drive Bridge to a life-altering conclusion.

Thomas (TomStone) | 18 comments Greetings All!

I am pleased to announce the release of two new speculative fiction novels by Cooper's Press on Oct. 2, 2010. The first, entitled Minerva's Soul, is the last book in a science fiction trilogy referred to as the Harry Irons Saga. Here's the blurb:

Harry Irons has been infected by the kitzloc, an enigmatic alien species. As a result, he's losing his mind. It's a race against time as Harry and his team attempt to locate one of the creatures in the sands of the Great Wahabi, a desert on the newly colonized world of Mirabel. A difficult task becomes impossible as they encounter disgruntled colonists, a security force from Earth, off-world aliens, and the mind-bending powers of the kitzloc.

MINERVA’S SOUL takes readers on a roller-coaster ride while offering a thought-provoking adventure which speculates on the nature of advanced species and the possibility of quantum manipulation.

MINERVA'S SOUL is the last book in a science fiction trilogy referred to as the Harry Irons Saga. The first two books are TO THE STARS and STOLEN WORLDS, both offered by Cooper's Press, a New Zealand publisher of speculative fiction.

The second book is entitled Smolif. SMOLIF traces the fortunes of Contra Marlo, a retired, alcoholic, security specialist. Contra was the best before he dropped out and became a full-time drunk. When a company rep offers him a job, Marlo must deal with sobriety, inexperienced team members, and a lack of information -- as well as the dangers of an alien world and the man who would be king of that world.

Pre-release reviews for both books have been outstanding. Thanks, Mom! Both books are only offered in ebook formats at this time through a number of sources, but the following links are supplied for your convenience.

MINERVA'S SOUL can be found here: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/...

SMOLIF can be found here: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/...

Good reading and enjoy!
