Currently reading Raising Steam (love my Terry Pratchett! Save the best for last) for SRC and Life Lessons for something else.I'm losing steam for the Winter SRC. I made the mistake of leaving most of my least favorite genre books for last. :( So I don't feel like reading them anymore and keep reading other books.
Next time, I'll try to squish the unfavorites in between. Still, pretty happy with how far I got on my first SRC.
that's why I always try to knock out the harder/less exciting tasks first...so i'm not stuck doing them at the end
Dee wrote: "that's why I always try to knock out the harder/less exciting tasks first...so i'm not stuck doing them at the end"Yeah, learned my lesson! It's been a pretty dreary month too, so it adds to my laziness to read unappealing books. :D
pretty books for new season showing up at library...awww! oh well, Dune is a big book - I may start it early
I finished reading "Sherlock Holmes and the Needle's Eye" Going back to "The Art of Racing in the Rain".
Oops. That last post messed up a little bit. I am currently reading the Vampire Academy series. I got Bloodlines at the library and a friend of mine said that i might want to read the VA series first to fully understand the bloodlines series.
Marybeth wrote: "Oops. That last post messed up a little bit. I am currently reading the Vampire Academy series. I got Bloodlines at the library and a friend of mine said that i might want to read the VA series fir..."I love both of those series, Marybeth! I hope you like them.....

I'm reading The Waiting Room by F.G. Cottman. Not sure how I feel about it, although I think it could have been 40-50 shorter. Some parts are really interesting, some parts I feel like to story isn't going anywhere.

Last night I finished Chasing Adonis - Gina Ardito and now reading Jack: Grime and Punishment - Z.A. Maxfield.
Dee wrote: "First book of the new challenge - Mudbound - for my task (lol - normally I do mine last)"
We read that in my library book group last year. Good book, but pretty depressing!

I am currently reading The Next Always by Nora Roberts. It is the first time reading a book by this author and I have to say that I'm really impressed!

I literally read the entire book yesterday - I was sucked in! I agree with you on the depressing, but I think it might be my first 5 star read of the year

Oh, I definitely thought it was a compelling book, no question! I gave it 5 stars as well.

Very stressful time in my life. I do not seem to be able to settle on one book. Now I have to finish something rather than start another one!
The Sins of the Fathers by Lawrence Block – 5***** A young woman is murdered; her roommate is found covered in her blood nearby. He’s arrested for the murder, and commits suicide in his jail cell. Case closed. But the girl’s father wants to know more; he wants to know how she came to this end. Ex-cop and unlicensed private investigator Matthew Scudder agrees to make inquiries. Block is a master of suspense, and he writes a tight novel. There is nary a word out of place or an extraneous phrase. What I really loved about the book was Scudder himself. I’ll definitely be reading more of this series.

Is there a reason why this thread never has the little red new link next to it? It's driving me crazy that it always opens to the first page rather than to the first new post.
Conquistadora by Esmeralda Santiago Audiobook read by the author – 4****
This is a sweeping historic epic romance and adventure, focused on one strong woman who travels from Spain to Puerto Rico in 1844 when her new husband inherits a sugar plantation. While the book’s focus is on Ana, Santiago also took time to flesh out many of the other characters. The island, itself, is a character in the book – the geography and history of Puerto Rico are central to this story. At the end, Ana is only 39 years old. While I was completely satisfied with the novel, I was sorry to see it end. I hope there will be a sequel. Santiago does a marvelous job narrating the audio version of the book; her passion for the story comes through in her performance.

Made the decision to turn The World Is Bigger Now: An American Journalist's Release from Captivity in North Korea . . . A Remarkable Story of Faith, Family, and Forgiveness back into the library. I just could not get myself to attend to this book. However, it is one of my oldest on the TBR, so I will give it another go in the future when life settles down a bit.
