Decided to re-read Persuasion by Jane Austen before delving further into Searching for Captain Wentworth by Jane Odiwe. Think the novel will be even more enjoyable with Persuasion being fresh in my mind.

I am winding up the challenge with 7th Heaven by Patterson. But I have my RL book group selection to read Midnight Rising: John Brown and the Raid That Sparked the Civil War by Tony Horwitz and several library books to get read and back to the library before Thanksgiving.
down to the last 5 books of the challenge ;)reading The Boy in the Suitcase and The Dark Tide on my kindle; Tiger Lily and The Journal of Curious Letters in print and listening to Iced
I've finished reading
by Kate Morton today. I thought it was beautifully written with just enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested. It was obviously very well researched - I loved the WW2 bits. Those scenes were so vivid that I felt I was actually there! I found the pace of the novel, especially in the first half, to be rather slow. I thought the author spent too much time describing the various settings in the novel. It got really tiresome in places but the pace does pick up again in the second half. I loved the ending! The twist at the end completely surprised me. I wasn't expecting that! I'm usually quite good at predicting what's going to happen next in novels but that twist was a huge surprise! http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Now I'm a couple of chapters into
by Karen Kingsbury.
I finished The Outsiders, it was good but not great. I fail to see the hype of it but I thought it was a interesting story about gangs, but lack the excitement that I was hoping.I am about to begin
I finished reading
by Karen Kingsbury last night and I really disappointed with it. The plot was very predictable, irritatingly repetitive, contrived and not very well-written. The concept of the story was interesting but the author is not a good enough writer to pull it off. This novel was simply too formulaic, too sweet, too predictable, too simplistic, too everything I don't like. The entire novel had that 'la-la-land' feel to it. Today I've started reading
by Stef Penney.
Reading
I have been trying to find this book for a few years and finally got it online second hand. So far very enjoyable and learning some new things about Janis Joplin I didn't know. Has me listening to her music too!
Pam - if you start here - http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5... - it explains the basics of how the challenge works
I fimished
, it was a great book about living your life by a social contract-whatever that meant lol.I am about to begin
I just finished Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore and loved it. I wish I could have saved it for the winter challenge, but it's due back at the library on Saturday and there's a waiting list on it, so I couldn't renew it.
ahhh, I love this time of year - new season challenge books showing up at the library; putting my various audiobooks on the ipod; stalking task threads for new ones being posted; cheering on ppl in the tasks completed thread (must be almost time to don the cheer-leader uniform - who's with me!)
I'm reading Zero Day and Croaked: an Edgar Rowdey Cape Cod Mystery - hopefully I can finish them both by Friday.
I finished reading
by Stef Penney this evening. Overall, I thought the novel was an interesting and mostly enjoyable read. There were some problems with it (not surprising in a debut novel), the plot became slow and tedious at times, there were too many characters - it was very hard to keep track of them all - and the author wrote all of her characters in the first person so sometimes it wasn't clear which character was doing the talking! I had to go back and re-read multiple chapters to figure out what was happening in the story, which was very annoying! The ending was very sudden. It came out of nowhere and it left too many storylines unresolved. I was left wondering WHERE is the rest of the story??? My full review is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Next I'm going to start
by S.E. Hinton.
I finished
, lovely cover, promsing plot but fell flat on many areas.I am about to begin
, finally excited reading this. I always been intriuged with him, this should be exceptional!
Gearing up to start the new challenge with reading the second half of
then have
and
lined up, two on my phone from the library and Reached is a paperback book I picked up from the library the other day, very excited to read it.
Finishing two that did not get done in time for points but too far along to abandon....The Deeds of the Disturber and Pride and Prejudice.Starting (again) To Play with Fire: One Woman's Remarkable Odyssey. This book keeps getting pushed back as I own it and other books (like library ones) are more urgent to read.
Also I finally figured out why my audio on my computer was not working (plugged into the wrong slot), so I downloaded The Postmistress from the library this morning.
and, then I am doing 5 loads of wash, cleaning, finishing last month's documentation for work this weekend...oh, and going to the library!
Guess which book is going to go back on the back burner...:)
Dee wrote: "Les Mis?"Oh, yeah. I had to turn it into the library so will be checking it back out. I have actually put in on another group's plan for a challenge to read a classic book that is intimidating. Figured that was the definition of this one.
I'm trying to finish The Richard Burton Diaries so i can return it on Monday. Also working on Tanya Huff's The Silvered. And i'm getting ready for a trip to FL later in 2013, so I'm reading guide books on Disney World and the Everglades.
Well, got through my first haul with a wonderful weekend that was mostly free for reading. So now I'm reading
(30.9) and
(15.8). Meant to be a heat wave here tomorrow so heading to the movies in the morning then the library in the afternoon. :)
I finished reading
by S.E. Hinton last night. This was my first time reading The Outsiders. I never managed to get around to reading it as a teenager but I've heard so many people say it is one of their favourite books so I thought it was about time that I read it finally. And now that I've finished the book I can't believe I waited so long! The Outsiders is a gripping and compelling read which is full of suspense. It was also extremely heart-breaking and touching at times. The novel is very well-written, considering S.E. Hinton was just seventeen years old when she wrote it. I was amazed with the amount of depth and layers in this book. It really is wonderful. Five stars! My full review is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Today I've started reading
by Charlotte Rogan.
This morning I finished Merry Christmas, Alex Cross - James Patterson. Now I am going to read Witchy, Witchy - Penelope King.
don't always post here - but since Mstan's task is about gushing/loving books ;) - Grave Mercy - YA historical fiction, touch of fantasy...assassin nuns, political intrigue...read it!! lol!
Last night I finished Mistletoe And Magic - Gina Ardito. I started A Cleansing of Souls - Stuart Ayris last night.
I finished Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention, it was a very good informative and complex novel.I am about to begin Bossypants
I've finished A Cleansing of Souls - Stuart Ayris. Now going back to Private Games - James Patterson.
I've finished reading
by Charlotte Rogan yesterday. The Lifeboat is the debut novel of author Charlotte Rogan. It is a compelling, gripping and extremely thought-provoking tale. This novel tells the story of survival at its most basic level. It explores human nature and morality. It shows what happens to people while they are fighting to stay alive. The novel is a psychological thriller really. The book is very well-written. I really loved the author's writing style. I was completely engrossed in this novel from the very first page. The way in which Charlotte Rogan describes the moral decisions the characters have to make is quiet chilling. My full review is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Now I'm halfway through
by Sophie Kinsella.
I've started reading
together with
, and plan to finish the latter tonight or tomorrow. Not sure what to read next--the Healer's Choice or a new book. I'm in the mood for lovely Christmas novel. So most likely I'll pick up another book.
Just came back from the bookstore. Too bad no Christmas-themed book interested me. Not finding any books I was looking for too. :(
p.s. Still managed to get 4 new books though :P
