I'm not sure. It's a good mystery so far, but the cultural stuff is really throwing me. I think it's helping that I'm listening to it rather than actually reading it.

Connie G (connie_g) | 358 comments Jayme, I enjoyed Left Neglected. Not only did I learn about that neurological condition, but the book also dealt with how people want to live their lives. The main character was a smart young professional trying to balance a stressful 70 hour/week job with motherhood.

message 2246: by Bea (last edited Jun 02, 2012 03:55AM) (new)

Bea Oh, I am so determined to read Les Misérables. This book (all 1463 pages) has been on my TBR list since 11/11/08. That's when i joined GR I believe. Anyway, for the past year, I have actively been trying to read it.

I keep checking it out of the library and then having to turn it in before I am done. Currently I am on page 313 in the book. {The book is thick and the print is small, so it is both hard to hold and hard to read for long periods.}

So I borrowed the audio version from the library. While listening to the first part, I realized that the narrator had missed some of the story. It was then that I discovered that this version is an ABRIDGED version (12 hours long).

I DID NOT WANT TO MISS ANY OF THE STORY. So back to the library to get the book. Now I am listening and reading both!

I also started Interview With the Vampire (another book I meant to read last season on loan from the library) and A Pinch of Poison. Only the last book, A Pinch of Poison, is on my planned reading list for Summer SRC.

I am anxiously waiting for the rest of the tasks so I can fit the other two books - especially Les Misérables. Do you think I can get double credit for it?

BTW, will GR allow me to mark two separate versions - book and audio - as read?

message 2247: by Bea (new)

Bea Yay! Nicki joined SRC in August and has read Interview With the Vampire!!! So long, planned Harry Potter book (goal is to read all of that series)...move over for the Anne Rice book.

Now where can I put the Les Misérables? I want as many points as possible. Can I bribe the 50 point creator? Just need a task for a French author, a Big Book, Set in France, Published in 1862, Book made into a Play, Longest on TBR, Longest taken to read once started, Classic, Most times checked out of the library, Book I should have read the first time...(trying to come up with ideas for the 50 point creator). LOL.

message 2248: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8987 comments you could use it for Donna jo's task...it def. fits as a bit book ;) it might even be on the classics list

Bea Dee wrote: "you could use it for Donna jo's task...it def. fits as a bit book ;) it might even be on the classics list"

Thanks for the suggestion, Dee. I have made a note, but currently I am planning to read The Historian for that task.

I am hoping it might fit Ms. Anderson's The Final Battle for an orphan book. I know that the orphan Cosette appears in the book, but I am not far enough into it to know if she is a major character. And, I can bump off another Harry Potter book planned for that task if it fits.
