I'm trying to finish both Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities (audio). Both are really good and very different in writing style. I still hope to read Blue Shoes and Happiness (if the Library gets it in for me shortly) before the end of the Challenge but this one is dubious.
I think that may be all I'll have time for this Challenge but we'll see. There are so many great tasks that I couldn't get to.....lots of good books to find new tasks for in the coming Challenge, if I can slip them in.
I'm reading Push right now. And I still want to read Catching Fire and Red, White, and Brew: An American Beer Odyssey before the challenge ends. It's going to be tough, I have too much going on!
I was hoping to read The Outcast by Sadie Jones but I don't think it'll come in from the library for me by the end of the month--my name is too far down on the wait list. Guess I'll need to pick up White Teeth by Zadie Smith instead. I have some stuff I've been saving up for between challenges to read, so may get to that this week too.
Finally got The Calligrapher's Daughter: A Novel from the library queue.(The queue for The Help is over 120 -- might have to buy that one.)
Currently working on 2 tasks. Reading Kristin Lavransdatter 1: The Wreath for #15.1a, and The Black Echo for Part C of Heidi's task #20.4. Then it's on to A Game of Thrones for the fictional family saga book.
pjreads wrote: "(The queue for The Help is over 120 -- might have to buy that one.)"It'll be worth it, PJ!

straight to amazon after GR!!

Jayme wrote: "I loved Game of Thrones. It is a big book though."Oh! Yeah!! But looking forward to it
You know what else would be good for a fictional family saga? Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews. Anyone read it? One of my favorites!
Just finished Sparrow Rock and now I'm starting on Dead Dancing Women: An Emily Kincaid Mystery by Elizabeth Buzzelli, a local author.
I am going to make a start on the summer challenge with Mrs Lincoln ... it's a brick, and I definitely won't get more than half-way by the first!
Pollyanna wrote: "I'm reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo at the moment, it's taking me quite a long time to read, and the business part of the book is quite dull."I agree with your take on it. I thought it took a long time for me to get through the beginning and the ending of the book. That's why I think I liked the 2nd book moreso then this one.

The queue at my library for The Help was 450 when I got on the list! I couldn't believe it. I got my copy in just over three months, though, so apparently the library here owns quite a few copies.

I did buy The Help and plan to read it for the Summer Challenge. The local library has 22 regular copies, 5 large type copies, 5 audio CD sets and an online ebook copy with a total now of 132 people waiting.
I do wonder why the library makes only some popular books Express Readers???
I recommend buying THE HELP. I liked it that much. I think once you read it, you'd recommend it to others, perhaps re-read it, etc.
I'm reading The Firm and Dead to the World. I'm also reading section a day from Sextrology: The Astrology of Sex and the Sexes.
Finished my first book: Hush: A Novel by Kate White. It was a good book, now I am starting Marie Antoinette: The Journey by Antonia Fraser
I am almost finished with Pride and Prejudice & plan on reading either Voyager or Girl in Translation afterwards.
Working on The Red Pyramidand re-reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Really enjoying The Red Pyramid- it definitely has the feel of the Percy Jackson series or the 39 clues books Riordan also wrote, but it is definitely unique. I have always found Egyptology to be really interesting so I'm enjoying learning about all the different gods/goddesses of ancient Egypt.
I'm reading
and
for this challenge, and finishing up
and
for the Spring challenge. Almost done with those!
Just finished The Girl Who Played Go for 10.2 and started Rose's Garden for Star's and Stripes (takes place in New Hampshire).
Stephanie wrote: "Just... started Rose's Garden for Star's and Stripes (takes place in New Hampshire)."Oh! Good!! I've been looking for a book that's not a reread for Part B of Wendy's Task.

I stumbled across this in the library by accident. But was glad it fit in. I just started it but it seems well written.
i'm finishing up Testing Miss Toogood by Stella Cameron for 25.10 and have a book picked out by Cameron Dane for part B that i'm hoping to start tonightand listening to Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell for 20.3 (so far its an interesting social commentary on society, similar to Austen and yet different
I'm currently reading Come, Thou Tortoise, a humerous, punny book of a young woman's look back to her childhood and her grief over her father's death, and The Preservationist, a retelling of Noah & the Ark as only David Maine can tell it.
i'm going to start Lucca tongiht which is for the task with a translated book, it was originally in Danish and also reading my 5.1 Wild Heat
I'm reading A Farewell to Arms. This is only the second time I've ever read Hemingway and the first time I've ever read one of his novels willingly (I read In Our Time for a class once a long time ago). So far I'm enjoying it more than I expected to, since I sort of forced myself to read it. 200+ books were added to my already large collection when my fiance and I moved in together, so this challenge I'm determined to read some of the books in our apartment that I've never read rather than running to the library all the time.
I am finishing up The ABC Murdersand tackling The Lacuna yet again--I haven't been able to get into that book.
Reading Grimm's Fairy Tales. Gonna start A Talk before Sleep sounds like a good cry. Also gonna start Under the net. What can I say. I like to keep things challenging.
I'm getting ready to start two - The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer and Emma by Jane Austen.
Reading Picture the Dead and A Spy in the House. Both are so good that I can't decide which one to read!
I am currently reading
memoir about working at Tiffany's in 1945. I am also finishing up
true story about the Circus Fire in Hartford CT in 1944.Both books are for the Summer Challenge.
Jennifer wrote: "I am currently reading In Cold Blood by Truman Capote for task 10.7 - the truth."That's what I have slated for that task as well - I can't believe I haven't read it yet!
Earlier today I finished Beatrice and Virgil by Yann Martel. Great book. Now I'm reading and enjoying Madame Bovary.
