I've looked and searched and ransacked my brain,
I've looked at bibliographies of favorite authors in vain,
Now I plead with you to help me so I don't go insane!
The protagonist is a young girl (teen) who lives in a futuristic city where everyone's popularity is analysed and tracked and ranked. The more people talk about you the higher your ranking and the higher the ranking the more stuff you get. Your ranking is like currency. She's ranked low (about 500,000) out of a million, but has this idea to capture video of these crazy kids who ride a high speed train dangerously. She gets a drone and follows them and ends up videoing something that looks like the govt is hiding aliens. Her ranking shoots up, to top 5, and she's suddenly rich and hanging out with the kids who were jumping the train. Something bad happens but she eventually finds out the govt isn't hiding aliens but human modification for space travel because the planet is dying and they are prepping a special group to get off it to survive.
I must've read this in the last 10 years and I have a vague feeling the city it was set in seemed Japanese or Korean
