You're running full speed! Congrats!

I'm going through a nasty no read spell.

I love that series. :D

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Lately I've been in a mood to read. But I haven't been in a mood to read what I'm reading.

Last night I was fiddling with my Nook, and out of the pure random, started A Betrayal in Winter.

This book wasn't on my radar at all. It wasn't even the first or second choice I would have thought I'd have gone with by the author. But I'm loving it.

Did you like the first book in the series? Is this one better or worse? I think I was meh about Summer, but if it gets better I might bump Winter up on my radar.

That's great!

I did like it, but I remember feeling pretty underwhelmed. That's why it took so long to start this one. Funny thing is, I look back at my rating and see that I gave it 4-stars. I think I was more generous in those days.

So far I've read the prologue and the first chapter. I'm really liking it a lot at this point. It also seems that my hazy memory of the first book isn't going to hinder me, as it takes place several years later.

message 63: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I rated the first three stars it seems. And my review identified it as "Eh." instead of "Meh." :)

message 64: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments "Eh" is a higher rating than "meh", I guess.

Were you reading with other people?

I've found, recently, that I tend to bump groupreads up instead of down, especially when that book is generally well received.

FUcking peer pressure, man. ;)

message 66: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments I might have been, but I honestly can't remember. I think Dawn and I read it at different times though.

It's well written, I just don't remember it being all that exciting. I really do think I've become more star stingy than I was when I started on GR.

Nyssa | 2023 comments As of yesterday, I officially broke my 6 month reading curse slump with the first 10 chapters of The Prophet of Panamindorah-a complete trilogy.

I am so happy to be reading again! :)

Michelle Kobus (rainbowsunset) | 123 comments I'm reading The Wizard Heir by Cinda Williams Chima. I've been in a reading slump lately, but this book seems to have gotten me out of it because I've been reading a lot more pages every day than I have been. :)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Apparently turkey kicks people out of reading slumps. ;)

***

So, this isn't a book I'm currently reading, but it's one I discovered today, and I just have to share it.

I know a lot of you are sort of opposed to ridiculous rewrites on principle, but, sometimes, I just freaking love the idea of them...

So when I came across Pinocchio, Vampire Slayer, I just knew I *had* to get it... so I'm buying it with my birthday monies. ;)

It's probably terrible, but I can't not read it. :D

I know! It was interesting, to say the least. :)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments Sooooooo...

I just finished two romances that were...super different.

But I liked them...but I didn't.

The Girl with the Cat Tattoo
Geek with the Cat Tattoo

I liked them because the author put a cat in each that gets real page time. You get the cat's POV and I love it. These are some Cool Cats and I love cats. If hubby wasn't allergic...I think I might have talked him into a cat or two by now.

But I didn't like them too much because they were a little head-hoppy and rather brief. I don't feel I really got to know any of the characters in book 1 except the cat. Book 2 was a little more in depth but still...

Loved the cats.
