Progress reports seven and eight was the turning point of Flowers for Algernon. Charlie was operated on. The effects which the operation had on Charlie did not happen immediately, but you could see later that his spelling was better. However, his I.Q slowly deteriorated and he went back to where he was.

"Punctuation, is? fun!" Yes, true that. We can vividly see how he passes through the floors of intelligence (if i may call it so) gradually.
