J. L. Dodd (jldodd) | 11 comments Hello friends. I am looking for a beta reader for my YA fantasy novel, approximately 75,000 words. Ideally, that person will not only enjoy YA and possibly manga, but be very familiar with Japanese customs and language. Any and all feedback will be welcomed, but I'm specifically interested and willing to pay for guidance in this area, so your experience as a beta reader need not be extensive.

I have a budget, but am willing to negotiate a fee.

If you are interested but need more specifics, please let me know. Thank you!

I think I can be a good fit for you as I love YA fantasy and read Manga.

I am passionate on dissecting and analyzing characters, world-building (even if it's not Fantasy), prose and voice, plot and general enjoyment.

Sara | 44 comments I would be honored to work with you on this project. I love the concept of using Japanese culture in a YA book. I’ve loved Manga since high school. I’m 34 now so it’s been an obsession for a hot minute haha. I’ve also been a freelance editor and beta reader since 2008. If you would like to chat more please don’t hesitate to email me at saramiller709@yahoo.com

Emily Grandy | 25 comments Hi J.L.

If you still need a beta reader/editor I might be a good fit for your project. I've spent significant time studying the Japanese language and culture and am reasonably well-versed in Japanese novels and mystery stories. One of my all-time favorite authors is Haruki Murakami; I'm also an avid amine fan.

I work as a professional freelance editor and would love to discuss your needs further. You can email me at emily.grandy@grandliterary.com

Also, if you need a good resource for learning about Japanese culture, I highly recommend the NHK series 'Japanology' - they have hundreds of episodes and you can find them all for free on youtube :)

Emily

Katerina Stavrou (katerinastavrou) | 21 comments Hey J.L.

Are you still looking for Betas? I'd love to help, your concept sounds interesting so far. My first language is English but i'm currently living in Japan and learning the language (I've had a fascination with this country, its culture and its history for YEARS), love me some good manga and anime, and I'd love to know more about your project to see if we would be a good fit.

If you're interested please feel free to hit me up at kat.stavrou@hotmail.com and we can talk further.

I often also do a light edit when I beta stories (depending on what kind of package you're looking for) so let me know if that would be something you're looking for :)

Hi Jess, just wanted to check in and ensure that i haven't missed any emails from you, if you did send them! If you are still editing - well i understand how long that can take, of course. But as i still haven't heard from you, i wanted to make sure that i did not miss something important you may have sent my way.

Otherwise, happy editing and good luck! :)
