Hahaha.... I wasn't sure either and had to look it up.
Can we use the audible originals that aren't published as actual books? If they appear on GR? And if so, how do we work out if they are 175 pages or more?
I just got caught up in the "naught" or "nought" business. Fun discussion and information. Sorry I missed getting in the middle of it... or maybe not...naught...nought!

And if so, how do we work out if they are 175 pages or more?"I think this came up with the yearly challenge too and it wasn't allowed because you can't verify page count. I'm going to make an exception for this toppler so that the members that have those Audible originals may actually get to read them for something. I do want people to be aware though that this exception is for the toppler only and those books might not work for other challenges.
The average audiobook narration is approximately 30-35 pages per hour. (Yes, I know this varies greatly, but that's considered average.) So, I'm going to say that if there is no other edition where a page count can be determined and an audiobook is over 6 hours long it can be used.

I have a few of those. I'll have to review to see if any are over 6 hours. Thanks Kristie.
Kristie, I think it is really great that you've given bonus points for books more than 400 pages. I am used to thinking of "toppler" books as very short. This is giving the toppler extra zing for me :-)

Kristie, some of the books I plan on reading have been nominated for or won awards. Can I use the year that the book was nominated or won an award to fit into a slot?
Oh nooo between being sick and work being super busy this week, the toppler totally slipped my mind till just now! :( Gonna head over to team 1 and see if I can squeeze a book in in the next couple days

See you over at Ah Ah Ah-Countable Ones.

Thank you.

Oh, I accidentally linked the screenplay version - the actual novel has 387 pages in hardcover. But thanks for the clarification on nought not being a number :) If I decide to read that one, I'll use other criteria for scoring
If you plug noon ET Saturday, October 12th into this website with your timezone, Saar, it will let you know what time to start. That's what I do.https://www.timeanddate.com/worldcloc...

Righty-O I'll nix the nought :) - well I might still use it just not with bonus points. It does actually fit the page number criteria, I just accidentally linked the screenplay version. The novel is like 380-something pages in hardback.
My brain isn't computing correctly, and I need a clarification. If you have an audio or Kindle version, use the page count from the first hardcover edition listed. If there is no hardcover, you can use the most popular edition with a page count. If you can not find an edition with a page count, then you will not be able to use that as an option. You may not use both the Kindle page count, if it is listed, and the hardcover page count.
Most of my books will be Kindle format. None of them have hardcovers. Some have a paperback edition. How do I know the most popular edition?
jaxnsmom wrote: "Most of my books will be Kindle format. None of them have hardcovers. Some have a paperback edition. If anyone is reading books for the annual challenge, please report your challenge books as you complete them. Please do not save them up and report them all in one fell swoop at the end of the toppler. It's easier for me to keep up as we go. It's a little labour intensive for me to track 30+ books at the end of the toppler. .
Just a quick question that I don’t remember seeing the answer to? Was there any rule against the same book being read by more than one team member? If aloud I’m assuming it would need to be slotted into a different number?
There is no rule against it, Jenn. Anyone can read any book and slot it anywhere it fits. You can only slot the book once per reading.
We've been allowed to read the same books before, so I doubt that will be a problem this time. Kristie will have to confirm, but I think it could even be used for the same number, just in subsequent rounds. Kristie?
Just want to put out a reminder to everyone that we can't pull numbers apart and the rules for time (audio) and month, year, etc still apply to titles. So, for example, if you are reading Catch-22 or Fahrenheit 451, those numbers are above 9 and can not be used for slots. They do give you the bonus points for a number in the title.
4:50 from Paddington is a time so the 4 works, but not the 5 because it is part of 50. 1984, is a year so only the 4 works.
Hope this all makes sense!

Hi Kristie,I may read The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83¼ Years Old. Please can you confirm that this gets bonus points for number in the title. Can you also let me know what number I can use from the title?
Thank you :-)

You can get the bonus points for a number in the title, but since the number is larger than 9 you can not use it to slot the book.
From what I can see, the copy you linked fits the following: 1, 3, 4, 6, 8
1st in series
384 pages
published April (4) 3rd, 2018
first published June (6) 1st, 2014

Glad you had fun, Lynn. I try to mix it up because some people don't like the competition and others love it. :)

It's not really the competition, I actually never look at the other teams and how they are doing. It's about working as a team, and doing the best that we can that appeals. It also helps in getting to know people better when you work as a team.
