Well, this a weird fairytale retelling that includes dragons, sirens, blackwidows, witches, goblins, pixies, a dead fae head, a pied piper and a stripper fairy godmother.
Alex has a blessing/curse placed on her at birth and becomes a reclusive hermit due to the amount of attention/death she attracts every time she leaves her house.
The only way to stop all the unnecessary action is to go on a quest to obtain various ingredients to fuel the cancellation of the curse.
Sam, a mysterious figure is sent by the fairy godmother to assist in the quest but is adamant he isn't her knight in shining armour. He's right, he's a dragon.
This was a good idea that had some serious flaws in execution. Sentences that didn't make sense, wrong names used, and sometimes you just had to re-read paragraphs to realise that the author or editor, if there was one, had omitted sentences to explain the change of scene or clothing or players.
It was fun and I did enjoy it despite its problems. Not sure if I want to continue reading Alex's brothers story though.
I'm done with my 1st book and a quarter of the way through the next. A bit lazy to post the review right now. It's been a busy weekend! But I'll get it done first thing in the morning

@Sandra Just to report I finished reading book#2, I'll write review as soon as I have time.... And I'm posting review of book#1 now.

I was very excited to read 'Her Mad Hatter' since I adore fairy tale retellings. I loved the world which is a mix of all popular stories. And Danika, fairy godmother as intro narrator. She's snarky and sassy.
Sadly, the couple (Mad Hatter and Alice) were very boring. They are destined to be together and it just felt to me like the story is more about him accepting that fact than real falling-in-love.
Since I got book #2 as Kindle freebie, I will probably read it to see if I have problem with Marie Hall's writing or just this couple...

Review: I've been looking for a new UF series and I think I found it. Even though I struggled with a few things in this first book of the series, I became very involved in the story and the characters. Jane Yellowrock is an intriguing character and the supporting characters are just as interesting. The writing was strong, though at times it got a little confusing when she shifted. But I liked the tone of the writing. My biggest challenge was my perennial pet peeve, it's set in New Orleans and even though the author is from Louisiana, she still managed to get things wrong. Why????? I don't understand it. But other than that, I am excited to read the next one.

I should be finished with it today and will post tonight.
As to baby, my DIL has been experiencing high blood pressure and lots of swelling. She was due on Nov 23. But they want her to go early, so they were trying to get her to go into labor. They've scheduled her to come in on Wed night to induce her. She's a little freaked.

@Leslie Awww. Tell her not to be afraid, it's a standard procedure. I know because I had high blood pressure during pregnancy and even spent my last month in hospital. I was in a room that was for that specific condition and since I was there for a month, I saw a lot of pregnant women come and go. None of them had any problems during labor.

And I've also been seeing The Mad Hatter around. I love fairy tale retellings, but for some reason I haven't grabbed this one.

Hannah Rose sounds lovely. And sounds like everyone is waiting impatiently for her arrival :)
Dragana, romance in a story is important to me so I still think I'll pass :)
Off to change your book Leslie & link your review as well.

My Review: Bring Me a Dream is the 5th book in the Reveler series and it is my favourite one yet!
The Reveler series is a darker take on PNR, it involves a world were people can dream walk with other people and some are talented enough to manipulate the worlds and take other people along for the ride. Now this can be a good or a bad thing and this is were Chimera come in, they are tasked with policing the world and keeping everyone safe whoever that seems to be becoming more unlikely with each book as wild talents are discovered and the lines between reality and dreamscapes are thinning until it's becoming harder to tell what is real and what isn't. Is it possible for dreams and nightmares to follow you into the real world? And what could the consequences be?
This series is definitely getting darker and it seriously has me hooked! As a girl who loves rewinding her dreams and starting them over if she doesn't like were they are going, I am completely intrigued by this world and I can't wait for the next part of the overall story arc!

Review:Short, quick, easy to read romantic suspense. The set up is a little far fetched, but the author handles the storyline with a minimum of angst and the romance is believable. I will definitely be reading more by this author.

I am changing my book for ER shelf to Gerard's Beauty.

So I'll update you ladies after I've sorted out dinner :)

REVIEW:
I did not like this book at all. If not for BINGO, I would never have finished. It had way too many themes I absolutely detest- non-consensual sex, forced gay sex and rape. The 'heroes' side go about forcing people to have sex with them left and right using unfair magical means. This would have been slightly(emphasis on slightly) okay, if it were portrayed with appropriate horror. But, oh no. It is all okay, because this side of beings fight the opposite side, who are supposed to be even worse. Riiiiggght. And the Boss aka Stephan who is supposed to be the good guy has sex with our heroine when she is drugged and unconscious. Urgh. Add in a bitchy female who tries to unfairly become the Boss's mate( which is not as incriminating on her part as it sounds. The Boss is lascivious enough to have sex with anybody), and a 'connection' between the Boss and our heroine, which literally pulls both of them toward each other, and a guard who is almost-a-teenager in human terms who wants to have sex with our heroine, and constantly only talk about it, I have enough. I can easily forsee the direction in which the next books in the series will go, and I have no interest in reading any further.
The only thing I liked about this book was the cover. Fooled by interesting covers again!

I got
from the library yesterday. I just realized that this book would fit for the 'ER' shelf. I am half way through this one, so I will be reading and reviewing this one instead. Desperately in need of something good to read after the colossal failure my B book turned out to be!

Leslie, I've been looking at Jane Yellowrock books for some time now. Glad you liked it. I'll bump it up in my TBR.

I'll go change your pick :)
@Sandra: Yes, the story is horrible. I cannot understand the higher ratings this book has got.
@Dragana: Believe me, you did a really good thing not downloading this book!

And I have had Jane Yellowrock on my TBR for soooooooooooo long. But since I've finished and am waiting for the next one on so many UF series, I needed something new. I'm so glad I found something!!

I really enjoyed this book. It's an intense sf action thriller. There are conspiracies, cyborgs, romance, terminally ill parents, lost memories, questionable government officials... Last 30% were especially hard to put down.
In one sentence I would describe it as a mix of MILA 2.0 and We Can Remember It for You Wholesale (movie Total Recall was based on this novella).

So the first book in Kingdom series had wonderful setting and quirky side character fairy godmother Danika. But the romance was flat and I didn't like the couple at all.
The second book had sizzling chemistry and I loved Gerard & Betty and their interactions. She's a geeky librarian, he's a womanizer and opposites attract. It takes time for love to develop and for them to know each other.
BUT.... Why is there always a but? It's set on Earth, so there is nothing extraordinary about the setting. And Danika does not have a lot of narration time. So all the things I liked in first book were not there. This was just another nice paranormal romance novel.
Hopefully book #3 will have combined good things from previous part and really blow my mind. :)

I still haven't decided what I will read for LO...

I'll be reading

For LO it'll be either

And have you noticed that we should have a 3 in a row soon :)

I didn't notice. But now I thinking about reading book for Lo first instead of N...
