Patricia Briggs is a gifted writer with an amazing imagination. Her characters are phenomenal, both primary and secondary. In this book Mercy and Adam shine and we're introduced to a slew of new characters...each bringing something to the table in this vibrant tale. River Marked is a wonderful read and I'm looking forward to the next installment. I wish Samuel, Bran, Stefan & Ben could have their own series like Charles does...or even one book! The world is fascinating and I want more and more and more!

For the life of me I have no idea how a book that could annoy me so much could make me want to read the next in the series. My big issues with this book/series are.... The love quadrangle and Zoey our heroine is annoying. Somehow she is so incredibly beautiful that she not only has a boyfriend but an ex that loves her and wont leave her alone and now she has a teacher who seems to like her. That one is my big ICK issue. It's one of the reasons I stopped watching Pretty Little Liars. The lack of tying up loose ends happened again in this book as it did in the first one. I hate dangling bits that carry over from book to book to book. It feels like a marketing ploy to get us to keep reading. Two of Zoey's friends are known as the Twins. They are so close to each other they think alike, talk alike and finish each others sentences. My issue is that they refer to each other as Twin so every other sentence of dialogue says something along the lines of "You said it, Twin!" It got really repetitive.
The good stuff is minimal. How the series will resolve what is going on with the children who do not turn but die and the ultimate baddie who is responsible is actually intriguing so I'll move on to the 3rd book but I'm not looking forward to the drivel like dialogue.

Review: Very creepy semi historical tale of the Donner expedition's fate. A small group went in search several years later only to find very disturbing signs of what appeared to be cannibalism and gruesome remains. The fictional story woven in involves a half Paiute indian girl Eve and ex-Texas Rangers who make up this odd group. I really enjoy Karina Halle's books and this one was as equally good.

I have enjoyed all of the books by Heather Webber and her alter ego, Heather Blake. This is the first book in a new paranormal cozy mystery series set in Hitching Post, Alabama. The town is famous for weddings and Carly Hartwell is a healing witch who owns her own potion shop. When a local lawyer is found dead in her shop, she finds herself in the middle of town gossip and helps solve the case. The cast of characters are wacky and the humor is charming. The mystery is well written and kept me guessing who did it. There is a little bit of romance thrown in with Carly's ex-fiancee being a town cop. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Still looking for a free shelf freebie... I'm taking a couple of books for a spin but nothing is sticking yet.

I love Molly Harper's Half Moon Hollow, Jane Jameson and Naked Werewolf series, but this book was just okay for me. The quirky characters are entertaining enough, however the story was predictable. I figured out who the killer was about halfway through and I had to push myself to finish after that. I was excited to see that there is another Half Moon Hollow book coming in March.

Review: Quick synopsis--Jace is an FBI agent who is sucked out of our world and deposited into a parallel universe where gods, vampires and werewolves exist on the premise of helping the NSA to eliminate a global threat of terrorism targeting vamps and weres.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book but someone somewhere recommended it to me. I didn't exactly hate it but it wasn't exactly good either. I listened to the audio and I think the narrator did a decent job but the heroine's attitude came across as a total B. She screams all the time. She is insubordinate. She has attitude on top of attitude. NOT a good thing. Since I didn't read the book I didn't know if it was more of the narrator's interpretation of Jace or if she really was written this way. I hated her.
I also had issues with why the parallel universe needed Jace. With an entire world of expertise full of races who are faster, stronger and longer lived than mere humans, why did they need her? This was, by far, my biggest issue with the book (even factoring in that I hated the heroine.) This point is not explained. It compromises the entire book/series's integrity, if you ask me.
So, will I read book 2? I can't get it in audio from my library so I'd have to actually invest complete focus on it and I'm not sure it would be worth it.

I'm only about half way done but should be done in a couple days.

This is tough with so many freebies on the TBR pile, so I'm a freebie snob and grabbing only 3.5-4+ rating ones.

Here is what she said exactly...
"When using title or series, the first letter of the series name or title must match the "shelf" letter(s). When using the author's name, you can choose based on the first letter of their first or last name."

Review: I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I wasn't sure what I was getting into. This book is about being in the foster care system. We meet Maxx short for Maxine. She is on the run. She runs into another homeless kid. The kid tells her about the chapel on 99th street.
The chapel is where she meets Rio. He is funny and has a plan even though he is homeless. He pushes Maxx to have a plan too. They start talking about plans when Maxx gets caught by the cops and is placed back with her foster family. The one she ran from because of the father attacking her.
I found myself not wanting to put the book down. Reading 99 to Nowhere just made me think about all the children that are in the system and could possibly be going through similar situations. It was a nice change of pace.

Review: I really thought I'd like this one since it had all my fav elements: shifters, sexy alpha hero, smexy scenes, mysterious plot, set in Louisiana. Then about of the third of the way in it started downhill for me... I think it was about the time the insta love hit after two short encounters and the Alpha decided that he "Imprinted" on the heroine Ava. He would be anything she needed, friend, lover, blah blah.. Almost Twilight verbatim! Then our imprinted alpha pretty much disappears, wth! The additional backstories were chunked in without any real flow or segue. Still had some potential but not sure I will continue especially since it left us in one heck of a cliff hanger. Not really in the mood for 5 more of those teasing puppies...

Still looking for an N shelf. Trying to find one that looks interesting to me that I obtained for free.

I don't see why it wouldn't work :)

The I-team series is fantastic and this one with it's glimpse into the world of Kat's culture was pretty interesting. I like that other i-team members make an appearance , they lend not only humor but a sense of family to the story.

Review: Really enjoyed this werewolf read. Anna is the low wolf in the pack after Alpha Adam took her in following her wolf attack that left several other victims dead and she turned. She navigates her new life amongst the other wolves while she fights her attraction for her Alpha avoiding her Alpha's mate Eve. When several humans are killed by an animal, Anna is blamed as a new wolf with little control. Very good twists and turns in the storyline. I will definitely continue with this series...

Lori Foster does such a great job blending passion, humor, action, steamy scenes and believable couples/relationships progression. Our darling male lead is tender yet tough, loyal and all Alpha male type. Alice has her secrets, she has know hardship, danger, shame, and pain...yet she eventually opens up to the very curious/cautious Reese. This tale is action packed and you will come to care for these characters and appreciate the happily ever after which Alice and Reese so deserve. I will add I love Alice's strength/courage/compassion she wasn't all damsel in distress. A great Read.

For some reason I didn't notice we both chose this book for LO. I saw the Lori Foster part but didn't connect because my eARCs don't have hot covers but plain jane white ones. I'm not quite half way through and am finding it an OK read. I thought the first in the series was just OK but I'm looking forward to Rowdy's book (have had all the ARCs for ages now waiting for me to read them.)

Review: Zombies, Millennials and Kids, oh my! This read as a very YA story with some PG 13 / R scenes thrown in. Typical young heroine that must save the world theme is front and center, but the storyline wasn't all bad the other distractions eroded the story away from its potential. Starts off in post Zombie world where survivors and military has held up at a school / quarantine site near Vegas as the Zombies are invading. Remy escapes with a couple of children and heads North to catch up with the group that has her brother Max with them. They lose a few and gain a few fellow travelers including a young doctor and rock star, along the way as they seek the new quarantine base. The zombie fight scenes are lame, ie: I have no weapon so I am just going to break off the leg of the zombie I just killed and beat the other zombies with it... Really? Serious stretch of the imagination with those, which again distracted from the theme of survival and the storyline. Also ended in a bit of a cliff hanger. Doubt if I'll continue with this one.

Several others really liked it, so it might be one of those personal choice books that is hit or miss with certain folks... I did enjoy the zombie eating Lioness they picked up along the way that decided to travel with them. Her diet of eating the killed zombies, not so much.

Review: For a Kindle Freebie this book is worth the money. LOL. I can't say I was enthralled with it but Elizabeth Hunter does have some good ideas. I think that with more work she could pen a book that flowed better. I had issues with the way it was written. I never got absorbed into the book. During one emotional scene where the heroine was crying out to the hero to save her, I read it but never felt it. I just never connected with the heroine. She was just overly immature to me. In my adult life I've never stuck my tongue out at anyone yet she did it on more than one occasion. With the heroine being 22 and the hero constantly reminding us that she's way too young it was hard to see her as a serious woman despite her career ambitions.
I also had problems caring about the "mystery" aspect of the story. Although I enjoyed the book having many scenes in a few libraries I didn't care whether Gio's missing books were ever found or if they were indeed burned centuries ago. In addition, the romance of the H and h lacked fulfillment as there is no HEA, no mutual admission of love and no hot monkey sex.
What I liked was Carwyn and Casper. Two very interesting secondary characters that I hope make more appearances in the rest of the series. I also mentioned that the idea behind this book was good. Vampires with an affinity to an element with Fire Vampires being very rare and extremely dangerous is a different take on a very overdone theme.
Overall I think a 3 star rating is actually pushing it a bit in my eyes but 2.5 seems too low. LOL.
Edited to add that after thinking about everything that annoyed me about this book I decided to lower my rating to 2. I feel better about it. Even though I didn't care for this book I definitely see the potential in the series and the author so I'll eventually read the second book.

I love the world Jeaniene Frost has created with the Night Huntress series and now this spin-off series. Spade and Denise's story did not disappoint! Denise turns to Spade for help in taking on a demon out to kill her family when Bones and Cat cannot be reached. The tension between these two was interesting and I liked how their relationship developed. I look forward to Mencheres story in the next book.

I think this may be my favorite book in the series so far. Kate's character seems to grow a lot in this one. She learns more about her family and deals with her magical abilities. And of course she has to save someone she loves. I love the interactions between Kate and Curran the most. They often have me laughing out loud!

They just keep getting better and better, love Curran...

Still trying to find a Shifter book that I got for free. I had one problem with the books I chose. The whole book wasn't loading on my Kindle Fire. I could read it on my phone, the Kindle Cloud and my Kindle Apps. I finally turned my Kindle Fire off then back on and now the books have loaded. If the power goes out again I will try to read my books.
