message 52: by Angie (new)

Angie | 81 comments I went 7 up, 1 down. I gave my last vote to the ancient world prompt, because I don't read a lot of books set then. I figured it would be a good push for me.

message 53: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 639 comments I think that was the first time I didn’t use all my votes!

Things have been very busy the last few weeks, so I’ve missed the last two rounds of voting entirely. I thought it would be better to just get a vote in than spend more time weighing my options.

message 54: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3279 comments I went with 4 and 4 this time, but there weren't many I had very strong feelings about either way.

I voted for witches, silhouette on the cover, child's perspective, and 400 - 600 pages. The page count one was because I already have a few books in mind for next year that would fit. Silhouette is probably the one I'm most excited for.

I downvoted memoir/autobiographical fiction because it seemed too limiting, geography/geology, 1920s, and the country where my favourite food is from. In general, I've realized that I really don't like picking my books by geography, so prompts that are based around a specific setting rarely interest me.

I just finished To The Bright Edge of the World and can highly recommend it!

message 56: by Jill (new)

Jill (dogbotsmum) | 1356 comments 4 up and 4 down. Although if my down votes get in I won't be upset. I upvoted witches, child perspective, silhouette cover, and ancient world.
All in all, I did like this set of prompts better than some others

message 57: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments 5 up, 3 down. I voted for witches, earth sciences, silhouette, 1920s and ancient world.

I downvoted child's perspective but now I've realised I could just read some YA or middle grade if I want to avoid the literary small child narrator. Also downvoted the food setting one and a book I know the ending of.

dalex (912dalex) | 2646 comments Katie wrote: "Dalex, to be honest, I specifically added the autobiographical fiction part to the prompt just so you wouldn't automatically downvote!"

Oh my. I don't know whether to be flattered or embarrassed!

Thank you for taking me into consideration when wording the prompt. I'll do a bit more research to see if I can find anything to read for this prompt before voting.

message 59: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1731 comments I really like the food prompt. It is the inverse of what we usually do when studying a country. We usually make dishes from a new country finding new favourites to add to our menus. It has been a fun way to expand our horizons.
Researching some of my favourite dishes origins will be fun.

message 60: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Sterling | 452 comments I went with six up-votes and two down-votes this time around. I There were three others that I wanted to up-vote, so if any of those nine get in, I'll be happy. I just hope we have more than one winner this week!

message 61: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Actually if the food one gets in I'll read a book about farming, then I don't have to pick a favourite. Food that's not made out of weird chemicals is my favourite food :)

You might like this one: A Woman Is No Man which is based on the author's own experiences.

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Nadine wrote: "there's no balloon ride in Around the World in Eighty Days"

I know, right?! I hadn't read or watched it (I think it's some sort of movie or cartoon or something?) until last year, but even so, when I read it, I kept waiting for the hot air balloon!

I'm so excited by your prompt, Katie, that I might even vote this time.

dalex (912dalex) | 2646 comments Suzanne wrote: "You might like this one: A Woman Is No Man which is based on the author's own experiences."

Thank you! It is actually on my "maybe" list for next year so that's perfect.

Suzanne, I hadn't even thought of that one, and I just started reading it today haha!

message 66: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sezziy) | 614 comments I think that this has been my favourite round of suggestions. Good work team! Normally I'm 4:4 or 5:3 but this time I was 7 up and 1 down

message 67: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments A Woman is No Man is excellent!

message 68: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments Ha Sara, just to show how different we all are, this has been my least favorite, but I'll make do with whatever happens!

message 69: by Marin (new)

Marin (marinbeth) | 187 comments This is going to be all upvotes for me again, but not sure if I'll use them all. The food prompt is the one I'm most excited about -- it would probably do me some good to know more about where my food comes from in general. Memoir is pretty much the last genre I think to read, so I like that this prompt will push me to do so. (Thinking about No Friend But the Mountains: Writing from Manus Prison for this one).

As far as I know, we only have one length prompt, so I'll vote for 400-600 pages. Also voting for a book I know the ending to.

I'm having trouble choosing between the rest -- I really like them all.

Liz | 516 comments I’m planning on reading A Woman Is No Man this year - I’m glad to hear you liked it so well, Katie!

message 71: by Liz (new)

Liz | 516 comments This is one of my favorite rounds of prompts too. I was going down the list & kept thinking yes, yes, yes . . . 😂 Mine were all upvotes.

message 72: by Jette (new)

Jette | 338 comments 4 up and 4 down for me this time.

It is interesting how the prompt groups appeal differently to different people.

message 73: by Bec (last edited Oct 01, 2019 04:26PM) (new)

Bec | 1338 comments I ended up voting 4 up and 4 down also.
And I've just added A woman is no man to my TBR list :P

message 74: by Jacquie (last edited Oct 01, 2019 07:17PM) (new)

Jacquie (oliviastale) I just don't know anything about geography

I like the witches one and the autobiography one thumbs up!

I’ve heard both “asexual” and “ally”

message 77: by Liz (new)

Liz | 516 comments Jacquie, the boy is 15 in that book. I really liked it when I read it a few years ago.

message 78: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3846 comments If possible, can the poll be left open until Fri midnight EST? Unless my flight is delayed, I will be home by then. Thanks! If not, no worries.

I like the geology/geography prompt even though I have no idea what I would read. I think it would be an interesting one to research!

message 79: by Charity (new)

Charity (faeryrebel78) | 552 comments Pam are you worried about not voting? If so you can vote on your phone. Just type your URL in. That’s what I do.

Pam, if you want to vote on your phone but you're worried about your link, just go ahead and type your name and I'll make a note of that.

Otherwise, we usually look at the results and discuss on the day they are posted, so you should be fine to vote Friday night!

Amen! I normally just do 4 and 4 and I did this time, but I wish we had had more votes! Normally I'm good after 8, the rest I don't care about this one I wanted more votes!

That's good to hear- I started it and got about 30 pages in before the library took it back. It hadn't grabbed me but hearing so many positive reviews, maybe I need to return to it!

message 83: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3846 comments Thanks Emily! Yes, I needed my URL but my daughter was able to get it for me. So, I was able to vote.
