For the monstrous character pick for the October Book of the Month, we will be reading It by Stephen King

For more information about the Book of the Month, see the introduction post.

* Part 1 - Chapter 1 - First Interlude
* Part 2 - Chapter 4 - Second Interlude
* Part 3 - Chapter 10 - Third Interlude
* Part 4 - Chapter 13 - Fourth Interlude
* Part 5 - Chapter 19 - Epilogue

Mods will provide one, slightly guided question. Discussion will then be completely open. If you have any questions yourself, feel free to post them. Subsequent comments can then answer whichever questions they find to be inspiring.

- Question: Is this novel living up to your expectations? Why or why not?

Ashley (ashleym99) Yes, this is living up to my expectations. I hold and keeps my attention. I like how the story combines the stories of what happened when the characters were children and currently as they are adults. You get all of the information in an entertaining way.

Michelle (mich2689) | 484 comments It’s been living up to my expectations too. I’ve been unable to read this before before bedtime because it keeps me up. I’ve been enjoying the alternation between the adult and children storylines too, especially since I’ve seen the movie from a couple of years ago and so I’m a bit more familiar with the children stories.

Marina | 1312 comments I didn't really know what to expect when I started reading. I'm not surprised how well written it is, that was expected. I can't compare it to other King novels since I've only read one years ago, but I've always heard that he is a master with words and that definitely rings true.
I don't think I had expected as much background story or that there would be so many different point of views. Maybe it's only in the beginning. But you really get to know the characters and I think it's easy to identify with one or more of them in some way.

Do you guys think King identifies with the characters himself... Maybe Bill?
I don't think I really know anything about him but this group of friends sort of remind me of the group of friends from The Body. Is this something you see often in his books? Maybe an ongoing theme.... dynamic between friends, coming of age?As I said it's been years since I read that one so I can very well be mistaken.

Marina | 1312 comments I already have a feeling I need to reread this one at some point. There are so many characters and stories so I think I sometimes miss important details.
