so im looking for a really specific book i used to own then lost. The plot i remember followed a boy in rome as they threatned there cousins so got away with no work, had a sdoldier or mercenary sleeping in the barn so he went in after dark and threatened him with a spear as he knew his father.

He was raised by the group until his dog was killed by a member and there was either attempted or alluded too a rape on the boy by the guy who killed his dog. The boy killed that guy with his spear and at some point left the group due to his mentors death.

The mentor had a prophecy that he would die in a pit of gold so he assumed it was gold coins but in reality turned out to be wheat i think there was a propecy on the kid too but at the end of the book he broke into someone important house and left a threatning message on the wall along with a pheonix in blood.
