I remember the book is a YA novel, about a young (16? 17?) girl who runs away to new york and changes her name, and works at becoming a fashion designer. She takes heavy inspiration from Breakfast at Tiffany's, and especially Holly Golightly.

Some other tidbits I remember:
There is quite a lot to do with the store Macy's
her main love interest works as a clown/is a clown/something about clowns
her style is inspired by her grandmother
and she has a not-that-great relationship with her mother
