I read this book when I was probably a freshman in high school, so 2011. I had found it in the school library. I remember it as a short but fast paced book of a child (boy/girl I can’t remember) moving to a new place. At this new place is a lake (the lake is important but I can’t remember why) and also the ghost of a child, who plays with the new child who moved. The ending is the biggest part I remember, in the end the child who moved to this new place had to cross this lake (I think in a storm) and find the cave where the ghost child died, but no one knew, to then set free the ghost child. And that’s it.. not much to go off of but the ending always really stuck with me and for the life of me I can’t remember anything else about it. Thanks for any help offered!

How did the child die? What was troubling the ghost? (Spoilers are fine - just give us a clear warning before revealing a spoiler.)
Can you tell us more about the children - e.g., their ages, skills/interests/hobbies, family/friends/pets, etc.?
What's the tone - e.g., mystery, suspense, horror, sad/somber, funny at times, etc.?
The book is set in present time, I believe it’s in a small town maybe in the country. I think the child in the book has a troubling life and maybe no friends. The ghost child died long ago but I’m not sure what time period. (Guessing 50s?) The ghost child went into a cave, fell and died there. No one ever found the remains and so the ghost child is very lonely and starts trying to find ways to get the child that is alive to find it’s remains, but for some reason it say outright where it’s remains are. I remember the book being very sad and also a little suspenseful.
Sorry spoilers on how the child dies in 1st comment! Also I remember both the children being young, possibly 8-10 years old? I don’t remember if they’re male or female.
