Lots of YA books, I guess.
Mistborn has been on and off my list for a couple of times but I think in the end I won't read it.
Twilight.
Sorry, but nope, not even to poke fun at it. I've seen some excerpts on 'reasoning with vampires' and the wrong grammar would kill me. English isn't my native language and I have a rule not to read translated books if the original is in English.
Anything Cassandra Clare writes or wrote. Nope.
A Song of Ice and Fire.
I simply hate the idea that a female character has to have a rape back story to count as strong. Look at Dany's unrealistic transformation of a rape victim into a loving wife. Victims of abuse don't act like this and people who romanticise this relationship apparently don't see it for what it is.
Also, political fantasy where the main characters constantly die is crap and lazy to boot because an author who can't end a character's arc except for having them die is no good. End of rant.
The Percy Jackson novels.
Mythology from an European country ... in the US?
No. Nopedy-no. How lazy is that even.
Any more John Green novels than I already read. My best guess is: the same nerdy teen characters who talk in big words all the time. It gets old pretty fast.
Divergent.
Since some reviewers remarked that the writing isn't very great, also I don't think a concept like in these books works in any constellation because humans are extremely diverse beings. Just because someone is brave, doesn't mean they can't be intelligent, or creative, etc. It just doesn't work.
The Outlander books.
Naahhh.

I'm just wondering, but are you guys regular readers of Adult Romance novels?

Nah, but fanfiction. Fanfiction with adult themes. And I can tell you, there's a lot of fanfiction that is better than FSoG (considering that this book series started out as Twilight fanfiction that's saying something!).
I don't really need to read adult literature of this nature to know that FSoG is no good. Just look up fanfiction recommendations for any series that is any good. With some luck you'll find really good stories with good writing where the characters aren't abusive jerks or helpless damsels.
Just throwing this out there because people seem to think that just because a story is 'original' and 'published as a book' they might be better than some fan shenanigans. At the end of the day, some writers are just better at their craft than others, no matter what they actually write.

First of all, you should never judge a book by its cover unless it is guranteed to be crap but not reading a book just because someone else doesn't like it is even more ridiculous.
also, if nothing else, please read percy jackson because it is an amazing series - like, even better than harry potter
but good call on not reading anything by CC though

Certain people have certain tastes. There's covers that are just unappealing and can make or break a book since you have to look at that. I actually put a book back because the dust jacket's paper had some sort of weird texture to it that felt really, REALLY gross (all the books of this one

As for Percy Jackson... I have no intention of reading it either. It's just not everyone's cup of tea.
Only thing I disagree with is the Cassandra Clare comments but your entitled to your opinions as am I to mine.

But I definitely understand the people who loves this series. And I love action movies so I love the movies of hunger games!

If the book were set in contemporary times, I would agree, but the concept of "marital rape" did not exist within the setting of this story, though. There are tons of books set in olden times that deal with young girls being forced into marriage and these women accepted consummating their marriage as part of their wifely duty and went through with it, even when they didn't necessarily want to. Based on the times that the book was set in, Drogo would have been raised to believe that it is his right to have sex with his bride and no one would have faulted him with forcing her to do so. The concept of rape didn't exist between husbands and wives in that society. Despite this sense of entitlement, Drogo actually offered Dany an out and she didn't say no. She went through with it. She cried (Drogo didn't see her cry, btw), but she didn't actually say no. She was emotionally and physically abused by her brother....not by Drogo. You're right that by today's standards, it's rape or "coerced" at the very least but within the context of the story, it wasn't.

agreed.

what you just said

For me, HP just never interested me. Which seems to shock a lot of people that given my religion (Pagan) I should've been addicted, well I was late to the reading game and two, it just never piqued my interest. But hey if it gets other people reading more power to them.

What's religion got to do with reading HP?

That's what I was thinking =S

Pagan - Essentially real life witch.

And? The "witchcraft" in Harry Potter comes from European Mythology, not actual paganism. I know plenty of Pagans, they mostly view the Harry Potter series as "cute" not accurate but cute.

I think your misunderstanding my post... It shocked some people who assumed I'd like it because of what I believe in... The story just never interested me. I was never offended by it, or anything like that. That's all.

Oh okay then.

@ Mochaspresso. I completely agree with what you said about the Dany/Drogo situation. It seems that alot of people dont understand that in this type of society there really isnt such a thing as rape between two people that are married. Its all due to the beliefs and values of these characters and the lifestyle they've been raised in. Just note that Im not saying this because I think that what Drogo did was ok. Im just saying that I understand why he thought what he did was ok.
On another note, I dont really understand why people are saying they will never read a Cassandra Clare book when they've never tried her books. And only reading the first chapter doesnt really count. Everyone knows that with a complicated fantasy book you should give it at least 30-50 pages.
And also The Mortal Instruments movie was done very poorly. So I dont really think its fair to judge the book by its movie. I have seen the movie and read the book and I will say that the movie does not live up to the awesome-ness of the book at all.
Back to the discussions topic, I dont have that many books that I vow to never read because as some people have said, you just dont know if someday you might pick up that book. But I do know that I will NEVER read 50 Shades or continue the House of Night series and Pretty little liars series.

Amen on the City of Bones movie. Started reading the book right after, only downside is, I know some things that's happened so it's making it harder to read it, but I'm dedicated to giving the series three different chances (bought the first three books) before giving up since I really am enjoying the Infernal Devices.

I know. I think my experiences with other novel adaptations where I wasn't fond of either the book or the movie like "The Host" (fell asleep on the movie, DNF'd the book) and "Beautiful Creatures" (hated the movie, disliked the book) probably helped to polarize some of my attitude. I used to never not finish books...now it is happening to me all of the time.

@Mochaspresso - I so get what you mean. I used to never not finish a book too but ever since I was intoduced to GR, online book shopping and booktubing videos, I only ever finish books that Im really interested in or that I find myself really enjoying. I wont keep reading a book if I dont like it because honestly, life is short and my TBR pile is so big and I'd rather be reading something that I enjoy.

Yeah, the book is way better. I just especially loved the books portrayal of the characters than the movie's portrayal. Movie Clary was just so annoying because she did such stupid things and her character wasnt developed at all. On the other hand book Clary was alot smarter and she was resoursful in the way that she got up and took matters into her own hands rather than wait for someone to save her. I have a problem with most of the movie characters. Dont even get me started on movie Valentine. What they did with him was just so wrong and I hated him in a way that I hate a cockroach. With book Valentine I did hate him but I also really respected his character because even though his ideas are pretty messed up and twisted, he was actually right. I hate that they took away his sophistication in the movie and made him this dreadlocked biker guy thats just doing stuff to be evil. Book valentine is way more complicated than that

No spoilers please, I haven't finished City of Bones... XD; But yeah Valentine creeped me out. Also Jace was such a jerk in the movie but in the book he is so funny!

the early diving suits that were connected to the surface by long hoses sometimes resulted in catastrophic consiquences when the surface pumps fail. "The air would leave the suit with such violence that the hapless diver would be, all too literally, sucked up into the helmet and hosepipe. When hauled to the surface, 'all that is left in the suit are his bones and some rags of flesh,' the biologist J.B.S. Haldane wrote in 1947, adding for the benefit of doubters,'This has happened."

And no more Cassandra Clare. The first 3 TMI books were great but the 4th one sucked so bad that I didn't bother reading the last two books.

Nevertheless it kind of makes me sad because i'd love to read those books.

Nevertheless it kind of makes me..."
There are a lot of cool details in the book that aren't included in the movies though :)

I know.. ILL NEVER EVER TOUCH THTA BOOK. IT just disgusts me. I mean why do people even write such books and y do people even read it.

Sorry, I was just curious because I noticed that people who usually say that, aren't really familiar with the genre, so they don't know the books that are worse than it, therefore they are more tolerable with it :)
Please no one get angry or offended, I just wanted to know
