Really? Usually I like whatever I experience first. Like, if I watch the movie first, I'll harbor a sort of fondness toward it even if it cut stuff out. If I watch a movie afterward, it's disappointing but at least I get to experience the story again. And it's not like it ruins the book.

Danni There are books I don't want to read but I will NEVER say never. Didn't want to read Gone Girl... didn't want to read City of Bones, didn't want to read plenty of books that turned out to be absolutely amazing. Sometimes its when you don't want to do something that it turns out to be better than you dreamed.
I will probably never really WANT to read the Harry Potter series, as I've seen the movies and just think its entire storyline is stupid, BUT a friend of my fathers gave them to me a few years ago and I'm considering reading the first chapter just for the sake of it mainly to back up my claims of stupidity.
The only thing I think I will never even be open to reading is the Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings series, that's idiotic times a million.

Most books exceed expectations, like I'm not big on paranormal romance anymore, but some stuff I've read has just blown me out of the water. There are a few authors that I have zero interest in reading, the stereotypical middle-age-repetitive-storyline-with-no-hope-of-capturing-my-interest, but maybe when I'm 80 and have nothing to better to do I might pick it up, you never know. As a writer and a reader, you have to be open to everything, maybe I won't read it today but maybe I will another day*. For example my parents have always had hundreds of book in our library/lounge area and I spent many years growing up- Not due to maturity, I was reading at an adult level in 4th grade- lots of Stephen King and Dean Koontz, but recently I have started considering some of them, I don't like Stephen King, but there are a few books that they have that look really interesting by other authors.
*This doesn't mean I'll like it.

I agree with this a majority of the time, but I have found an exception to the rule. I think the If I Stay movie was better than the book, I actually never finished the book, it bored me to tears, but the movie was absolutely amazing.

Judith Sarah wrote: "I will never read the Mortal Instruments series because I have no interest in it. So many people have been recommending it to me but, I never felt a click with the storyline which I barely understand."

Oh believe me you are notmissing a thing I really tried to read the first two books, but its just boring and long, I just couldnt handle it anymore

Yes, and if you are gonna watch the movie after the book, make sure that if it is a series: first to read all the books and then watch the movie. Because what happened to me was that I read the first Mortal Instrument´s book and inmediately watch the movie. It totally ruined the other books, there were so many spoilers in that movie that just... aghh

Mochaspresso I fell asleep on The Mortal Instruments movie 3 times. I don't want to go so far as to say that I'll never read the series, but I wasn't too keen on trying the books after that.

Rachel Jeffery Loony wrote: "I read Beautiful Creatures because of the movie but I after that, I have no plans in reading the entire series.

Also maybe I will never read The Vampire Academy."

Think twice about that honestly - I didn't care for Beautiful Creatures but a good friend convinced me to try Beautiful Darkness and it got MUCH better in my opinion.

Dylan I will not read Twilight because I heard Bella tried to kill herself over a man and mainly a dumb love triangle with shimmering vampires.

Fun Fact. Stephen King's books consistently test at a 5th grade reading level. But that also makes them quite accessible. And many children cut their teeth on King on their way to discovering Horror. And he's consistently brought up in conversation as an example of an "adult" author. I'm not directing this at anybody, I just find that kind of interesting.

My friends and I used to joke that if you wanted to pass your WWII history exam, all you'd have to do is read the Harry Potter Series. Because that's actually many of the core elements. Voldemort is clearly modeled off Hitler, his Death Eaters are clearly Nazis and Muggles/Muggleborn represent the prejudices that the regime had (practically anyone different or not with them.) And Draco could easily represent a Hitler Youth who later grew disillusioned with the cause, only to find himself trapped by his fear.

I don't know if I'd hasten call that "stupid" but then one would still need to enjoy a bit of fantasy in order to like the series. So it's definitely not for everyone.

I don't usually say I'll never read a certain book because once I say that, I usually end up reading it.

Though there are a couple series I won't finish.

Pretty Little Liars has never appealed to me, but I read the first one anyway. I hated it, so I never read the others. I just can't get into them or enjoy them. And then there is the House of Night series. I loved the first book, but after that, the series was rather annoying.

Me tooooo... UGH! All my friends recommended me this series and said it is hilarious... the first book was great but then in the second book I gave up. I just lost my interest in it bcz it was dragging the story... UGH!

Also I read Matched by Ally Condie.. I had to drag through the pages.. ugh! I gave up on that series too. It had an uninteresting plot and soo not cool characters.

exactly!

i have absolutely no idea why matched and the mortal instruments is such a thing. i literally had to drag through the first few books in the MI through a period of 5 months, and i didn't even bother to finish the 1st book in matched.
they are cliche in the worst possible way, boring, lacking plot, wit, personality, and decent distopian/supernatural element, and some of the conflict is just so meh
delirium and matched technically have the same plot, how can one suck so much while the other is so amazing.
even uglies managed to have a good first instalment, though the rest of the series is almost as bad as matched,
BUT SERIOUSLY ALLY CONDIE?

Dramapuppy I loved Matched, but yeah. The second book is awful. I literally suggest reading a summary online and skipping to Reached.

✿ K.B ✿ Wht abt The Lunar Chronicles.. I was in the third or fifth chapter and I lost interest in it too..

I agree. Matched (book1) was not bad (though not great either). But Crossed(book2) was incredibly boring and basically, a lot of crap!

Dramapuppy wrote: "I loved Matched, but yeah. The second book is awful. I literally suggest reading a summary online and skipping to Reached."

I liked Matched too. But Crossed was just plain boring. I've not read Reached yet, though I plan to. Is it good?

Yeah I know. City of Ashes was really boring. But I suggest you try the next book, City of Glass. It's really much better and has an actual storyline. I don't think you'll find it as boring. :)

It doesn't actually matter. The second book did not have anything of much importance. You can read the third book without finishing it. :P

✿ K.B ✿ Kk lets see.. ryt now I am endulged in two books which are interesting but I have not enough time to finish them. Easy (Contours of the Heart, #1) by Tammara Webber Drink, Slay, Love by Sarah Beth Durst

Emma Harry Potter because I got noooooooo time for that :( I love the movies though!

message 73: by Arielle Rae (last edited Nov 10, 2014 01:28PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Arielle Rae Aguilar Anything else by John Green. I'm not saying he's a bad writer or anything like that, it's just that I heard that his books doesn't have an HEA, and I rarely read books without a happy ending.
That eliminates a lot of YA books for me, but oh well. Not going to read something that I know I wouldn't like the outcome of.

Like Allegiant; read reviews and the last page, which I'm glad I did, wich made me not want toread it, even though I enjoyed the previous books

Same with love triangles... Unless I heard that it's done really well, I steer well clear of it, so bye bye to books like Matched, The Selection and Delirium etc.

Erica Fifty Shades of Grey because I have no fetishes.

Alma Karina 50 shades of grey, and twilight... For what i've seen I don't see what is the big deal.

Dramapuppy Reached is definitely worth reading.

how is delirium a love LINE (please am i the only one who knows that a love triangle involves an LGBT?)!?!?

Ingrid i will never read the twilight saga. it's actually abit weird because i really like to read about werewolves, wizzards and anything that is supernatural... except vampires! i tried to read a couple of pages of twilight, but i just didnt like to read it. i have watched the movies and i didnt like them either.

Storm Arashi New one... I never want to read: Pieces of Me by Amber Kizer The premise just sounds awful and reading an excerpt just makes me sad knowing that the main character is inevitably going to die and have her organs donated when it wasn't what she wanted. The fact she doesn't know what the medical terms are as evidenced by a quote: “Donation? Money to the hospital? To make me well? Didn’t the doctor call Nurse Brady an organ-donor coordinator? What did he do? I needed organs? Procurement? He is a Professional Cure Doctor? TO cure me? Or no… Think, Jessica. Think.
NO! I screamed, leaping at my body, trying to force myself back inside. To open my eyes. To talk. To live. Donation? I wasn’t meant to be served up. I AM HERE. YOU CAN’T JUST TAKE MY PIECES!
You can’t make me.” That's when I stopped seeing the teenager on the cover and instead saw a scared little girl who didn't want this... I just can't...I can read scarier books, true horror but... The premise just sounds too painful.

What's a love 'line'?

Are you kidding me? All it takes for a relationship to be a love triangle is for there to be three people in a romantic relationship, with two of them generally liking the other person in the triad (and sometimes are competing for his/her affection)... It doesn't have to include any LGBT :)

And the Delirium trilogy DOES has a love Triangle: (view spoiler)

Michellyne I guess I may never read the Hunger Games series.. I have the complete collection of its books (long before the series came out as a movie) but never even had the urge to read them...not even the first line...But I loved the movies...So lets see.....

Maybe not.

Michellyne Oh and another thing... I will not read another book which is very much like the LOTR series (including the hobbit) by Tolkien... I've read the entire series back when I was in elementary and high school.. It messed up with my mind after I've read everything from the middle earth... Tolkien was that good that I actually thought his story was part of the history... I don't think any story that attempts/claims to be like LOTR will ever measure up to it...

The premise isn't ALL about the Unwinding, Unwinding is a big part of it, but it's also character driven, it's more so about the characters slowly changing the world they live in, and learning to survive on their own more then anything else. Your choice if you don't wanna read it, but I recommend it regardless.

you really should give An abundance of Katherines a try, it absolutely has an HEA (driving to sunset and all).

I guess I will never finish reading 50 shades of grey and will never read the other books of the series. Saying this 'cause I started and disliked it, but since I'm so curious I'm not going to say I'll never read any other book.

Annie Sumpunkulapak 1) Fifty Shades of Grey - I think the first book was okay, but then it got so redundant and I feel like the second book is going to be the same and that's just boring listening to a girl talking about her 'inlove' feeling then 'confused' feeling over and over repeatedly.

2) Beautiful creatures - Read the first one, finished it.. thought it was great but also had another feeling same as 50shades.. that it's going to be redundant over again.
