Popular Books and Series you will never read and why

I will probably never really WANT to read the Harry Potter series, as I've seen the movies and just think its entire storyline is stupid, BUT a friend of my fathers gave them to me a few years ago and I'm considering reading the first chapter just for the sake of it mainly to back up my claims of stupidity.
The only thing I think I will never even be open to reading is the Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings series, that's idiotic times a million.
Most books exceed expectations, like I'm not big on paranormal romance anymore, but some stuff I've read has just blown me out of the water. There are a few authors that I have zero interest in reading, the stereotypical middle-age-repetitive-storyline-with-no-hope-of-capturing-my-interest, but maybe when I'm 80 and have nothing to better to do I might pick it up, you never know. As a writer and a reader, you have to be open to everything, maybe I won't read it today but maybe I will another day*. For example my parents have always had hundreds of book in our library/lounge area and I spent many years growing up- Not due to maturity, I was reading at an adult level in 4th grade- lots of Stephen King and Dean Koontz, but recently I have started considering some of them, I don't like Stephen King, but there are a few books that they have that look really interesting by other authors.
*This doesn't mean I'll like it.

- never watch a movie after i read a book
- always read the book after i watch the movie
Why?
because the book will forever, and shall always, without a doubt, be better."
I agree with this a majority of the time, but I have found an exception to the rule. I think the If I Stay movie was better than the book, I actually never finished the book, it bored me to tears, but the movie was absolutely amazing.

Oh believe me you are notmissing a thing I really tried to read the first two books, but its just boring and long, I just couldnt handle it anymore

Yes, and if you are gonna watch the movie after the book, make sure that if it is a series: first to read all the books and then watch the movie. Because what happened to me was that I read the first Mortal Instrument´s book and inmediately watch the movie. It totally ruined the other books, there were so many spoilers in that movie that just... aghh

Also maybe I will never read The Vampire Academy."
Think twice about that honestly - I didn't care for Beautiful Creatures but a good friend convinced me to try Beautiful Darkness and it got MUCH better in my opinion.

true

Fun Fact. Stephen King's books consistently test at a 5th grade reading level. But that also makes them quite accessible. And many children cut their teeth on King on their way to discovering Horror. And he's consistently brought up in conversation as an example of an "adult" author. I'm not directing this at anybody, I just find that kind of interesting.
My friends and I used to joke that if you wanted to pass your WWII history exam, all you'd have to do is read the Harry Potter Series. Because that's actually many of the core elements. Voldemort is clearly modeled off Hitler, his Death Eaters are clearly Nazis and Muggles/Muggleborn represent the prejudices that the regime had (practically anyone different or not with them.) And Draco could easily represent a Hitler Youth who later grew disillusioned with the cause, only to find himself trapped by his fear.
I don't know if I'd hasten call that "stupid" but then one would still need to enjoy a bit of fantasy in order to like the series. So it's definitely not for everyone.
I don't usually say I'll never read a certain book because once I say that, I usually end up reading it.
Though there are a couple series I won't finish.
Pretty Little Liars has never appealed to me, but I read the first one anyway. I hated it, so I never read the others. I just can't get into them or enjoy them. And then there is the House of Night series. I loved the first book, but after that, the series was rather annoying.

Me tooooo... UGH! All my friends recommended me this series and said it is hilarious... the first book was great but then in the second book I gave up. I just lost my interest in it bcz it was dragging the story... UGH!
Also I read Matched by Ally Condie.. I had to drag through the pages.. ugh! I gave up on that series too. It had an uninteresting plot and soo not cool characters.

exactly!
i have absolutely no idea why matched and the mortal instruments is such a thing. i literally had to drag through the first few books in the MI through a period of 5 months, and i didn't even bother to finish the 1st book in matched.
they are cliche in the worst possible way, boring, lacking plot, wit, personality, and decent distopian/supernatural element, and some of the conflict is just so meh
delirium and matched technically have the same plot, how can one suck so much while the other is so amazing.
even uglies managed to have a good first instalment, though the rest of the series is almost as bad as matched,
BUT SERIOUSLY ALLY CONDIE?

what(and stuff)??? the first book was awesome!

I agree. Matched (book1) was not bad (though not great either). But Crossed(book2) was incredibly boring and basically, a lot of crap!
Dramapuppy wrote: "I loved Matched, but yeah. The second book is awful. I literally suggest reading a summary online and skipping to Reached."
I liked Matched too. But Crossed was just plain boring. I've not read Reached yet, though I plan to. Is it good?

Yeah I know. City of Ashes was really boring. But I suggest you try the next book, City of Glass. It's really much better and has an actual storyline. I don't think you'll find it as boring. :)

But how can I read the third book when I did not finish the secnd one?
Lol! I will be like a lost fish in the ocean.

It doesn't actually matter. The second book did not have anything of much importance. You can read the third book without finishing it. :P

That eliminates a lot of YA books for me, but oh well. Not going to read something that I know I wouldn't like the outcome of.
Like Allegiant; read reviews and the last page, which I'm glad I did, wich made me not want toread it, even though I enjoyed the previous books
Same with love triangles... Unless I heard that it's done really well, I steer well clear of it, so bye bye to books like Matched, The Selection and Delirium etc.

I was writing this fanfic and this guy was raving about all the shades of blue in his boyfriend's eyes and as an author's note:
50 shades of gay.
And-

That ..."
how is delirium a love LINE (please am i the only one who knows that a love triangle involves an LGBT?)!?!?

NO! I screamed, leaping at my body, trying to force myself back inside. To open my eyes. To talk. To live. Donation? I wasn’t meant to be served up. I AM HERE. YOU CAN’T JUST TAKE MY PIECES!
You can’t make me.” That's when I stopped seeing the teenager on the cover and instead saw a scared little girl who didn't want this... I just can't...I can read scarier books, true horror but... The premise just sounds too painful.

What's a love 'line'?
Are you kidding me? All it takes for a relationship to be a love triangle is for there to be three people in a romantic relationship, with two of them generally liking the other person in the triad (and sometimes are competing for his/her affection)... It doesn't have to include any LGBT :)
And the Delirium trilogy DOES has a love Triangle: (view spoiler)

Maybe not.

The plot may be unappealing to you at first glance, (it was for ME and I LOVE this series) but you really have to give the first book a read, it really pulls you in.

The premise isn't ALL about the Unwinding, Unwinding is a big part of it, but it's also character driven, it's more so about the characters slowly changing the world they live in, and learning to survive on their own more then anything else. Your choice if you don't wanna read it, but I recommend it regardless.

How will you ever know if you don't read those books :)?

I totally agree!

good idea

NOOOOoooOOOO I am a potterhead and I'm sooo excited whenever someone gets start in the Potter Series! Please try it! You don't have to live up to its hype at all, I just hope you find something out of the books (and so do other potterheads)

Eh I'm one of those who will pass up Harry Potter too... I know enough of the references that I get the general idea but... Eh not my cup of tea.

That ..."
you really should give An abundance of Katherines a try, it absolutely has an HEA (driving to sunset and all).
I guess I will never finish reading 50 shades of grey and will never read the other books of the series. Saying this 'cause I started and disliked it, but since I'm so curious I'm not going to say I'll never read any other book.

2) Beautiful creatures - Read the first one, finished it.. thought it was great but also had another feeling same as 50shades.. that it's going to be redundant over again.

I'm in the same dilema with percy jackson, I think I will get bored, but I absolutely love the harry potter saga.

I will never read House of Night. Too long and I got enough of it off from Bad Books Good Times. It was insufferable.

It looks good! Thanks, I'll give it a try :)

Really? Usually I like whatever I experience first. Like, if I watch the movie first, I'll harbor a sort of fondness toward it even if it cut stuff out. If I watch a movie afterward, it's disappointing but at least I get to experience the story again. And it's not like it ruins the book.
