Reading it gives us a glimpse into the courage and strength of those who opened the West.

Reading this book gave me a tremendous appreciation for how brave these explorers were, and how rough America's interior was. Going all of that distance and all of that time not certain if they would be killed, would starve to death, or capsize and drown.
