SandyC (sandyc88) | 1193 comments Tara Jo, I also really enjoyed Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor but for some reason haven't gotten around to the second one.

Erin, oh to be a senior in high school again! :-)
I LOVED A Storm of Swords. It's one of the best books I've ever read. I hope you like it!

Steph Ann, I typically love Richelle Mead but I wasn't enthused by the first Age of X book. Is the second one better?

Ashley, I was surprised by how much I liked the Cuckoo's Calling since I thought the Casual Vacancy was depressing and dull. I just picked up the Silkworm from the library today!

I had 4 books that were on hold come in today at the library. I have my work cut out for me!

Erin | 376 comments Sandy, what do you think of The Confession so far? I had to read it two summers ago I think it was for a summer reading book and I liked it. And my reading pause in Storm of Swords is by no means representative of how much I like it because I LOVE it. The whole series really is fantastic. Once I get these other books off my currently reading (and the library books I have out that I haven't started yet) I'm definitely going to go back and finish it. Hopefully I'll get some reading time in over Thanksgiving break to speed through it

I always have an audio book playing for my commute, and The Confession is my current choice. I am really liking it. I haven't read Grisham in a LONG time and I forgot how much I enjoy his stories.

I can see how it would be hard to find time to read ASoS when you have to read Shakespeare and Dickens too! I was an English major so I completely understand!

message 104: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments Sandy, and in hindsight a lot of it was self inflicted because at the beginning of the semester we chose an outside novel from the list of AP Lit novels and I willingly chose to read Bleak House, all 1000 pages of it. And then I waited to start reading it until 3 weeks before I have to finish it....oops

message 105: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments @Ashley - wow! How do you keep track of so many books! I am usually a one-book-at-a-time kinda gal but am doing 2 now (one on audio and one reading).

@Erin - I agree...oh to go back to HS and do it all over! How exciting to be a camp counselor!

@Monica - how are you liking Imprinted By The Alpha? I saw that book the other day and was tempted to pick it up

@Steph Ann - congrats on the new baby! I'm really enjoying Daughter of Smoke & Bone...I'm reading in on audio book and really find it fun that way with the various voices! I'm thinking of continuing on with the next books at some point...buddy read maybe?

@Sandy - how are you liking In the Woods? On my last team challenge, one of my teammates read it and gave it 5 stars. And how does a Texas gal go from TX to MN?? Brrrrr! I grew up in Austin and moved to San Diego...

Ashley Marie Erin wrote: "@Ashley - I really like the name Waylon for a cat"

Thanks! the bf and I are both classic country fans, hence Waylon and Emmylou -- the mama's name was Jessi (aka Waylon Jennings' wife Jessi Colter) but Slick got to be the odd one out lol.

and Code Name Verity might possibly be my favorite book that I've read this year <3 that story was mind-blowing.

@Tara Jo, I LOVED the DOSB trilogy! just finished Dreams of Gods & Monsters a little bit ago and I'm dying for it to come out in paperback <3

also, Storm of Swords <3 favorite book of that series.

how do I keep track? great question bc I have no clue lol. Cuckoo's Calling is an audiobook that I listen to at work for background noise, but the rest... yeah, no clue lol.

message 107: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1193 comments Tara Jo, I am loving In the Woods. It's one of those books that I wish I was able to stay up later to read! I can see it being 5 stars, but I'm only about 1/4 way into it.

About moving to MN, I ask myself the same question especially when winter rolls around! This morning it is sleeting and we're supposed to get significant snow Sunday/Monday. I moved here to be with my husband. We met in San Diego and he lived here. I am ALWAYS talking about moving to TX, but my kids insist they are Minnesotans and they don't want to move! They love the snow. I like snow ok, but I don't like it for 6 months!

message 108: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie Sandy, I have yet to read Casual Vacancy! It's been on my shelf for probably a year or two and I still haven't touched it.

message 109: by Elaine (last edited Nov 07, 2014 06:13AM) (new)

Elaine (ofdustandstarlight) Hi everyone! Let's hope I can keep up with the thread xD

1. How many books are you currently reading?
I'm amazing at starting new books but terrible at finishing them. Right now, I'm juggling The Likeness (Dublin Murder Squad, #2) by Tana French Kisscut (Grant County, #2) by Karin Slaughter Everything and the Moon (The Lyndon Sisters, #1) by Julia Quinn UnSouled (Unwind, #3) by Neal Shusterman

2. Which of these are you enjoying the most?
Hmm, I would say Everything and the Moon (The Lyndon Sisters, #1) by Julia Quinn just because I'm almost done with it and its a light historical romance.

3. What style/genre of book do you typically enjoy reading?
It's not a genre per se, but I used to read YA almost exclusively. I've recently moved (and devoured) historical romances and I really enjoy paranormal/fantasy as well as psychological thrillers.

4. Do you have any pets, if so what?
I used to have a dog but we had to put him to sleep :( I would really love a cat right now though.

5. What is your favorite non reading hobby?
Watching TV shows! I watch A LOT.

6. What do you do for a job?
I'm in the social media field, creating content.

7. What area of the world do you live?
I live in Singapore, GMT +08:00. I'll probably be out of tune with most of you guys here because I live in a completely different time zone.

PS. I absolutely love love love the Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor series so if you guys wanna do a buddy read for the second book, I'm in. It's my favourite out of the three!

message 110: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments @Elaine - what do you think of UnSouled? I read the first two and want to read that one too

message 111: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 66 comments @Tara Jo, I would definitely be up for a buddy read of the 2nd book! I am pretty sure I already have it on my Kindle somewhere but just haven't gotten around to reading it.

@Sandy, So far, I'm liking the 2nd Age of X book more than the first. I'm about halfway through and it's moving much quicker than the first one did. I also think she does a better job of describing the world in this one. I felt really lost when reading the first book, but I think this book has given me a better grasp on how the world operates. It's not my favorite of Mead's series though.

@Elaine, I'm also interested in hearing what you think of Unsouled. Yet another book I haven't gotten around to reading yet lol.

I'm so ready to move back to TX! I've been in San Diego for almost 16 years, but Texas will always be home to me. That's where all my family still lives and I've been trying for years to get my husband to move. It used to be his daughter was the reason he stayed in San Diego (she was 10 when we started dating) and now it's the grandbabies! I keep pushing, so it'll happen eventually, just not soon enough! I have family in Wisconsin who constantly ask when I'm gonna move there. CRAZY! No way! Couldn't deal with the cold!

I bet once the BR I'm doing now for Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor finishes (we've officially not started yet, but some of us already have!) we could continue on and read the next one.

I've got another big challenge read that starts December 1 and lasts 3 months...the new tasks for that challenge get announced on Nov 15, so once I get that list I'll be able to start plugging all of my currently committed BR into that and see if I can find room for Days of Blood & Starlight in there somewhere!!!

message 113: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie oh and I'm doing the Sabriel BR in December too. SO MANY BRs!!

Funny, my husband spent 6 years in San Diego when he was in the Marines. He talks about moving there some day but never to TX! He says maybe we'll get a house there to live in the for the Winter. LOL
I love San Diego. My sister moved there 9 years ago when she graduated from high school and never looked back. The rest of my family is in TX though. Do you go back and visit very often? When I go it seems like things have changed so much!

message 115: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) @Tara Jo I just started reading Imprinted by the Alpha last night. It only has 27 chapters so I am hoping it will be a fast read. I like what I have read so far.

Wow you guys are so chatty today. I am hoping to get some reading done tonight.

You all seem to be from the warm states. I have always lived in Pennsylvania. We get all seasons here. Right now it is cool and a little rainy. Hopefully no snow until December or later. I do like snow just as long as it is not bitterly cold.

I would join in the BRs but I don't think I have any of those books. If I can I will join in.

Ashley, in my very humble opinion you're not missing much. :-)

message 117: by Erin (new)

Erin | 376 comments Like Monica, I have only lived in one state my whole life (all 17 years of it, I feel so young now). And Hotlanta season are definitely....interesting. It finally got cold a week or so ago. But I think this year we decided to skip fall and go from summer straight to winter.

message 118: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments @ Sandy - Agree...been in SD for a while and LOVE the weather! Never lived anywhere where there are actually 4 seasons or anything...just HOT and COOL! I agree that so much has changed in TX since I left. I get back at least once a year, but that's just not enough. I have a lot of siblings (11 between halves and steps) so with that comes 20+ nieces and nephews, and it's hard when I'm not around because many of them don't really know me. :-(

@ Monica - I'm trying to put off working, that's why I'm chatty today! :-) I try to stay off here, but it's hard. I was just in PA about 2 months ago...my husband is originally from there, and his brother got married in September so we went to visit for a week. Made it before the cold temps started!

I've tried really hard to NOT buy books since I started doing these challenge reads...I've got so many books i've downloaded over time (many of them freebies or very cheap) so i have no need to buy any. A lot of the BR I've signed up for I've been able to find the books at my library, but a few I've bought...there are some author's I'll buy but until I know if I'll like the author, I try to not buy too much (or spend more than $2-$3 on the book). I read way too many books to do that, so unless I plan to read it again I don't like spending that much.

I need to find some other book lending services (like libraries) since my library doesn't have some books I want on ebook. If anyone knows of an ebook lending service, please message me.

Yes I've heard it's dull lol. Thus I'm very happily surprised by the Robert Galbraith book/s so far :)

message 120: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) @Erin you are so young....

@Tara Jo - I am at work and putting off doing things. I don't see all of the site when I log in at work but I can at least read the posts. It is the book covers that don't show up. My daughter just got married in Oct. You came before the leaves changed. What part of PA were you in?

I try not to pay for books but if I really like a series or auther I buy their books first. If I am buying e-books I will either borrow from Library through Overdrive or through the Kindle library if possible. I have only purchased I believe 2 e-books. Every free e-book I see I usually download. Now my goal is to get through a few of them.

I have 2 coupons for B&N so I will be making a stop there this weekend to see if I can find anything I want to purchase.

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1193 comments OK, I have a question about our challenge. Will there be a separate thread to post our books and points, or will we post everything here? Captains are you tracking our points or shall we do that ourselves?

Thanks

message 122: by Erin (last edited Nov 07, 2014 11:35AM) (new)

Erin | 376 comments @Sandy - we will be keeping track of points with a spreadsheet and as long as you put them on your tower teams shelf in addition to your read shelf when you've finished it then you're good
Although posting that you've finished one here would be good too just so I know that I need to go check your shelf to configure points

I was in the King of Prussia area....
I need to check out the Kindle Library...I may end up joining Amazon Prime to get access to that for free. I download a lot of the freebies too on Amazon..however, it's all a ploy! They are usually 1st of series that are offered, and they suck you in with "the first one's free" and then get ya with the rest of the series! I've fallen for that one too many times! I've started looking at the cost of the rest of the series to see what they cost to decide if I'll chance the first one in case i fall in love!

Someone in another thread indicated they get from Overdrive, but I only know that in relation to my library...is there another source other than the local library that uses Overdrive I wonder? Hope you find a good book to use your coupons on!

@Sandy- I'm planning to keep my own spreadsheet of points so I know what it should be, but I think between putting the books on our designated TT3 shelf, and posting a post here (I'm guessing with new points claimed and total points claimed??) that will allow Erin and Monica can log it in the spreadsheet.

message 125: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) I know where K of P is. I have been to the mall there a few times. That is a nice area. I grew up in Montgomery County but now live in Delaware county.

message 126: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1193 comments I'll probably keep my own sheet too.

I'm excited to get started! I have 8 library books in a stack waiting to be read, an audio book in the car, and I'm in the middle of 2 ebooks that I read at night before bed. So many books, so little time!

message 127: by Elaine (last edited Nov 07, 2014 08:57PM) (new)

Elaine (ofdustandstarlight) @Erin, @StephAnn Not to be a downer but it's the weakest of them so far. It feels like a filler book because the series got extended to 4 books and it's a lot more character driven rather than plot. Still good but not as good as the first two. Are you planning to read it soon?

Ashley Marie 20 points for Hunger (Riders of the Apocalypse, #1) by Jackie Morse Kessler if I'm calculating this right.
It counts as long as we finish it on/after the 8th, right?

Great Monica! Looks like it's not set to public or whatever allows others to view so not sure if that's part of what you're working on or not.

@Elaine - I hadn't originally planned on reading UnSouled anytime soon because I didn't think I had it. I was looking through my Kindle library yesterday though and saw that I must have bought it at some point and just forgot. So I'll probably be reading it sooner rather than later lol.

I'll be reading Immortal once I get it from the library (says it's due back on the 14th and I'm first in line) but that's the last one. We might be able to set up a series based Buddy Read though that covers all of them.
