Just reread THE HORSE WHISPERER, a blockbuster bestseller (and movie) of the '90s by the recently deceased Nicholas Evans. The novel holds up! The strong characters and gripping scenes of horses in peril and in careful training (the "whispering") all speed the reader forward in a story whose human twists might be predictable, but satisfying. I confess to new interest in this "horse" novel because my "Val and Roddy DeVere Gilded Age Series" of historical crime fiction--set in the late 1890s--requires that horses be present for the saddle and hitched to carriages, all in service to the story, starting with A GILDED DEATH, set in Newport. Now writing the 5th book, my "horse" sense is keener than ever!
I'm reading "The Orange Yellow Diamond," by J. S Fletcher. Another Golden Age mystery - I see to be gravitating toward a lot of them lately.

Dystopic fiction sounds like a good match with today's world!

I just finished "Farther Reefs", which released today. It is an anthology comprised of 10 short stories that all share a common theme. With this one it's lesbians and ocean/water is the common denominator. The first anthology of this series is "Distant Gardens" which had sentient plants and/or planets as it's common theme. Oh! And Lesbians! Both are Excellent Saphic Fantasy.
I am reading An Amish Christmas at the Apple Blossom Inn by Tracy Fredrychowski and Debra Torres. This is my 300th book this year.

Hope you all will read Two If By Sea! There should be a lot more ratings and reviews on here but somehow, they all went missing and GR can't figure out where they went or how to get them back!!!! Don't let the few ratings and reviews discourage you from getting the book and having a great time reading it, as it won't disappoint you!!!! Thank you all!!!

Currently reading:Necropolis, by Basil Copper, a Victorian era mystery
The Witness on the Roof, by Annie Haynes, a older mystery in the
Carolyn Wells style.
Just finished Simon the Fiddler, a historical fiction set in Texas following the Civil War. Paulette Jiles is one of my favorite authors who not only does superb research, but writes wonderful, well-developed characters. Simon and his lady were side characters that appeared for a short time in Paulette Jiles's award-winning novel, News of the World.
I'm currently reading Turncoat from The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. My daughter's fiance drew my attention to these fantasy books, and in a month I've gone through eight of them. While I generally prefer sci fi to fantasy, these books are really good.
Read Daughters of the Dragon by William Andrews - reviewed - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5076634569
Read Untrue till Death by Graham Brack and reviewed - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5081378541and
All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2733212566
Just finished 'Exodus' by Leon Uris - not bad, and a good novel to read if you are interested in Israeli history. Now reading 'Gladius: Life in the Roman Army' by Guy de la Bédoyère, which is a very well researched book on life in the Roman army based on real evidence rather than speculation. He goes into a lot of detail of how the legions operated around the Roman Empire.
I am reading Turncoat by John Butcher. It's part of the Dresden files. It's a fantasy novel about a wizard who is a P.I. in Chircargo. Harry has a half broither who is a white Vampire - they don't suck blood - a dog who is bigger than a Newfoundland that is a temple dog - they can spot spiratual activity and even kill ghouls etc, and a skull called Bob who helps him with spells. His friends include Karan Murphy, a chicargo cop, fully human, John who's a carrier of the sword of God, and Billy the wolf who's human most of the time. It's light entertainment for people who like both the detective and fantasy genres.
I just finished "The Witness on the Roof", a Golden Age mystery by a little known author Annie Haynes. Now I'm reading "The Joss: A Reversion," by Richard Marsh, a Victorian/Edwardian thriller writer.
I just finished and reviewed the upcoming release of Gail Meath's fourth book in her Jax Diamond Mysteries, "Two of a Kind". These are fun cozy mysteries that I hope some of you will check out. There are arc copies for Two of a Kind on Booksirens that went up just today!

Just finished reading, The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan. I loved it. You can check my review out against the book. I tend to get into the festive season this time of the year and dedicate my reading time to Christmas related stories and romcoms. I don't do dark, heavy or thrillers this time of year. I will write them which is weird but not read them.
