Christine Cazeneuve | 14 comments I just finished my 85th book and I'm a different Christine (lol). It was The Lady of Sing Sing by Idanna Pucci. A terrific true story of the first woman to be sentenced to the electric chair in New York State. She was an Italian immigrant who slashed her boyfriends throat for refusing to marry her. Excellent read!

J. (jdrew) | 153 comments Just started Ten Thousand Miles in a Dog Sled A Narrative of Winter Travel in Interior in Alaska (Timeless Classic Books) by Hudson Stuck a remarkable look at traveling in Alaska in the early 1900s. Really gives a different perspective to the Iditarod and the serum run years past.

John Anakwenze | 103 comments I am into Charles Dickens’ novels. I completed reading Bleak House two days ago, picking up from the family bookshelf a weather- beaten copy of David Copperfield with the front cover ripped off. I am not sure how far to go for I have only read the first three chapters and I don’t know how to stop being emotional.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments I read The One That Got Away by Zoë Wicomb. A collection of 12 short stories about characters straddling between two cultures--South Africa and Scotland. Some of the stories were better than others. But a good read, on the whole

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments A couple of other recent reads:

The Lost Soul, a short story/parable by Olga Tokarczuk. The text is minimal but inspiring. The illustrations are beautiful.
My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I also read Miss Iceland by Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir. I've loved everything of hers I've read. My favorite is still Hotel Silence, but this is also very good. There is a quiet, subdued quality about her novels that I really love.

Hi Belynda,

I've just seen this post, many thanks for mentioning 'Fairytales' and the fact that your book club enjoyed it. I'll keep an eye open to see what you choose next.

All the best with 'Secrets and Silence'.

You could say that I am an Indie author. I'm giving away 100 free e-book copies of Sol is Not Lost. It is a fun science-fiction romp/space opera but carries some interesting themes that many might not have considered. Just send a request to authorScharen@physicist.net. Let me know what format you would like, either .epub or.mobi and to what email address you wish it sent.

I have an author's page here under Michael James Scharen and a website -- michaelsbookcorner.com

Cheers!
Michael

Belinda,

If you would like to share one of my books with your book club, either Sol is Not Lost or For the Ages, that should be fine -- I can send one for you to copy, provided there are not too many people in the group, LOL! Send a request to authorScharen@physicist.net.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments I read Jane Austen: Her Life by Park Honan, a 400+ page biography.
Prof. Honan includes a wealth of information about Jane Austen's life and her times. But sometimes he goes into a lot of details that have little or no relevance to Jane Austen or her work. In spite of extensive digressions about various sea battles with France or genealogies of minor characters, this is a well-researched and informative biography.

message 3646: by Michael (new)

Michael Scharen | 147 comments I just finished Ezekiel's Brain . It is a fast-paced, multi-part science fiction story about a race of machines with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the level of consciousness. There are dozens of intriguing questions that it raises as they debate what human qualities they wish to adopt.

bohemianrhapsodyreads (bohemianrhapsody32) I’m currently reading “The Dictionary of Lost Words” by Pip Williams. Over 50% in. 10/10 and 5 stars.
