Leah (leahingledew) | 3 comments I've just started The Sentinel, the next book in the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. Looking good so far!
The Sentinel

Steve Coleman | 6 comments Just finished "Final Bearing" by George Wallace and Don Keith. Very exciting, filled with intrigue and lots of good naval techno-thriller action. It's a story about Seals and a submarine defeating a powerful drug lord. A great read.

Read that years ago and found it really bleak. But would still like to re-read it.

message 3259: by Jim (new)

Jim Vuksic | 1227 comments Just finished reading A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens (First published in 1859)

Just started reading Moby Dick by Herman Melville (First published in 1851)

Required reading during my senior year in high school (55 years ago!), I decided to re-read them from my new perspective, a 73-years-old man. I thoroughly enjoyed and understood the first novel and am enjoying and understanding the second just as much - much, much more than I did as an 18-year-old young man who would have preferred not to being forced to read those classics.

Alice Poon (alice_poon) | 165 comments I'm currently reading The Dragon Republic (The Poppy War, #2) by R.F. Kuang The Dragon Republic (the #2 sequel in the Poppy War trilogy) by R.F. Kuang. This sequel deals with the civil war in China that followed the end of the Second Sino-Japanese war (i.e. the Asian front of WWII).

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) | 48 comments I just finished ARISEN Raiders, Volume 1 - The Collapse by Michael Stephen Fuchs and it was as awesome as the original series.
Now I've started Fortune and Glory (Stephanie Plum, #27) by Janet Evanovich and I LOVE this series - read all the books so far!

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 2898 comments I forgot to do my update last week, so here’s what I read over the past two weeks:

Future Earth Chronicles Shorts
by Barbara G. Tarn
My rating: five out of five stars
This is a wonderful collection of short stories, which do an excellent job of illustrating how humans will always find a way, and are a delight to read.

~

Adventure Song (Future Earth Chronicles Book 6)
by Barbara G. Tarn
My rating: five out of five stars
This was an exciting addition to this series, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I just love the characters and worldbuilding of this series, and I’m glad we are getting to explore more of this world.

~

Sun Kissed (Future Earth Chronicles Book 7)
by Barbara G. Tarn
My rating: five out of five stars
Once again this is an excellent addition to the series. It’s fun to read about how different people might have adapted to an apocalypse, and meet all sorts of different types of characters. I really enjoyed the bonus vampires through the centuries story that came at the end of this book too.

~

Asian Ways (Future Earth Chronicles Book 8)
by Barbara G. Tarn
My rating: five out of five stars
I loved exploring so many places with Arjun and company, and liked how this particular story ended a lot, especially the way certain character relationships developed. I've said it before - and likely will again - but this is an excellent addition to the series.

~

Wind Rider (Future Earth Chronicles Book 9)
by Barbara G. Tarn
My rating: five out of five stars
I know I often say how a book is a great addition to its series, but... I was so swept up in this one that I read it in one sitting, and it only occurred to me that I was doing so - and several hours had passed without me noticing - when I got to the end of the book, and was reading the interesting author notes at the end. If that's not the sign of an excellent book that makes a great addition to the series it's a part of, I don't know what is.

~

Melanin Goddess (Future Earth Chronicles Book 10)
by Barbara G. Tarn
My rating: five out of five stars
This was an excellent addition to the series, which I could’ve easily read in one sitting had life and the need to sleep not gotten in the way. I love the way this one ended, and think it was a perfect way to finish out this cycle of the series.

Ketevan Todadze | 12 comments I am reading everything by Rick Riordan right now. I'm on the last chapter of "House of Hades".

message 3264: by Bruce (new)

Bruce E. | 159 comments I have just finished "Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania" by Erik Larson. I give it 38 stars out of five. I was left with the question as to why the sinking od the Titanic is the poster child of ship sinking lore. The event of sinking of the Lusitania I feel is more dramatic, has just as many social implications, and far more political implications. Both are unimaginable tragedies. I found U-20 more compelling than an iceberg. The book itself is well written and carefully documented. I was on the edge of my seat.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 2898 comments This week I read three books, all of which I was given in exchange for reviews.  Well, technically that's not quite accurate, since one of them I was about
a third of the way through before this week started, but still.  Either way, here's what I read, along with my book reviews.
Daughter of Fire (The Daughter of Fire Saga Book 1)
by Stacey Willis
My rating: four out of five stars
This was a gripping read, which fans of fantasy stories that include the Greek Gods will enjoy; a great read for fans of the Percy Jackson books, though
perhaps when they're a little older than the recommended reading age for those, since this one is darker. There were some aspects of the writing style
that make me hesitate to give it the full five stars, but those are minor things that I know are all about my reading preferences, so I would still highly
recommend this book.
*NOTE: I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This fact has in no way influenced either my opinion of the book or the contents
of this review, and all opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

Entrapment (Thor's Dragon Rider, #3)
by Katrina Cope
My rating: five out of five stars
This was an action-packed exciting addition to this series, which I put down with great reluctance when I had to do so in order to do other things - like
sleep, eat, etc. I highly recommend it for fans of fantasy based around Norse mythology.
*NOTE: I was given a free advanced copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. This fact has had no influence upon either my opinion
of the book or the contents of this review, and all opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

The Dark Prince of Albany (Albany Nightingale Duet #3)
by Rachel M. Raithby
My rating: five out of five stars
This book was an incredibly enjoyable read. I absolutely loved getting to know Grayson better through reading his story. I thought he was a great character
before, but love him even more after reading this book.
