I am about halfway through The Enigma Game
, a book I got from The Tiny Bookstore in Pittsburgh as an ARC along with my online order. I wasn't sure if I'd even read it but once I got started it sucked me in. So far, very good reading.

I read The Familiars by Stacey Halls set in 17thC England. I'd read some positive reviews about the book, so I was expecting it to be good. I was disappointed. Perhaps it just wasn't for me.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Currently reading Divergent by Veronica Roth.(Published by Katherine Tegen Books, an imprint of Harper Collins Publishers) - 2011.

A girl shifted to the new city with high hopes. Made friends for life. She falls in love, but she didn't know that her love story had a short life.
She starts getting anonymous notes one by one. Curiously following the instructions as she wants to know the truth and the person behind.
She was asked to come for a coffee date by the stranger. What will happen next? Will she be able to resolve the mystery or will become a victim?
Feel her shoes, because I am sure you will be able to relate to her. Or at least laugh at her funny-sad luck. And just be with her as she battles out her life.
Let's see what can happen over a cup of coffee.

I am about halfway through "The Library Book" by Susan Orlean. It is not really my genre, but at the moment I would give it 15 stars out of 5. It is marvellous.
I’m currently reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, which I find a pleasant coincidence regarding the crisis we are living in these days concerning racism and discrimination.
I read The Unpassing
by Chia-Chia Lin--a compelling narrative exploring the challenges facing an immigrant Taiwanese family in Alaska. My 4-star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished reading 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes', the prequel to the 'Hunger Games' series by Susan Collins. Published by Scholastic Press - 2020

I am now reading What Frees the Heart by Karen Wyle. I am anxious about what is going to happen to the two main characters. They are two hard-working young people trying to over come major life issues. I have a feeling they are headed for a hard time.
Finished the seventh "Outlander" book. Enjoyed it, but definitely not my favourite of the series, since it took me a while to care about some of the things we were following in this one. Liked it enough to give it four stars though. Now reading book eight.
Finally finished Philip K Dick's VALIS and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3134096657.
Latest read - Lincoln's Dreams by Connie Willis. Found this one rather disappointing sadly - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3381646037.
I am currently reading The Spy by Paulo Coehlo ... if any of you are looking for a suggestion, you can check out my book Girls Should be Seen Not Heard
I read The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden. A magical fantasy set in 14thC Russia with elements of folk and fairy tales. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I just finished reading Edge of Anarchy and it was another amaaazing installment in the Edge Of Collapse Series. Loved it it from the beginning to the very end.
I just finished reading You Can, You Will by Joel Osteen and I'm feeling inspired. It was the pep talk I needed to spiral me forward towards reaching my goals. If you want to feel inspired and read something positive in these uncertain times, I suggest you read this book.
I'm reading the psychology of time travel and really enjoying it. For anyone looking for something new, my sci-fi thriller novel We Come In Peace eBook is free until Tuesday (also available in paperback):

Here's the synopsis:
When you have lost almost everything, how far would you go to protect the one person you have left?
Ryan Ellis’ successes at the government-corporate US Tech are behind him, his marriage is flailing and grief has left him struggling to get through the day.
After being plagued by nightmares of losing the one person left that he loves, Ryan is sent top secret files from an anonymous source that might explain the strange events that have happened to him, and he will do whatever it takes to find the truth.
Paradox. Unveil. Transcend.
An Intricate Enigma: Chapter OneOne of the shortest single-chapter books I have ever read. Really looking forward to the next chapters, to see how the story would develop.
Actually, I've just finished reading my own novel, Death Comes Calling. The reason was I wanted to read it on a Kindle rather than as a manuscript. Its a much more satisfying experience.
I am almost half way through "Melissa" by Taylor Caldwell. In some ways it is similar to "The Taming of the Shrew", but still in a fundamental way quite different. Melissa is not a shrew, but even more maladapted. It is a book with almost no characters I like, which for me is usually a death knoll, but not in this case. I am really drawn to it Melissa, who if to this point not very likeable, is extremely compelling. Some of the intellectual issues in the book. which reflect Melissa's trauma, are discussed in a manner that appeals to me. I am very glad to be reading it.
This:-The Romanovs: 1613-1918
It's super interesting but it's going to take a long time to get through and absorb :-)
Read Clark Ashton Smith's Out Of Space And Time Volume 1 and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3384351702plus
Cyrion by Tanith Lee and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3386882779.
I read Disoriental by Négar Djavadi, translated from the French by Tina Kover. It won a lot of writing awards in France. It captures the immigrant experience of an upper class Iranian family forced to flee to France. I thought it was fantastic. I especially enjoyed the narrator's voice. I highly recommend it.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
'Allegiant' (Divergent, #3) by Veronica Roth. Published by: Katherine Tegen Books - An imprint of HarperCollins Publishers - 2013.

This week I read three books. Well, finished one and read two others. Either way, here's what I read during the past week, along with my book reviews.Written in My Own Heart's Blood (Outlander, #8)
by Diana Gabaldon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
As much as I'm a fan of the series, I have to admit this one only just managed to scrape the four star rating I'm giving it. I mean, I really enjoyed this book for the most part, but didn't totally love it, and can think of several things I didn't enjoy about it. There were a few places in this book where I felt like the events or details were drawn out a bit more than they needed to be, a couple of times where the scene - while interesting - really didn't do anything to move the plot forward, and a couple of deaths of minor characters I wish hadn't happened. Also - while the ending isn't a cliffhanger, and I did think it was a lovely ending in many ways - I found it frustrating that things were left as they were as regards Roger and Brianna's part of the story. Other than that though, this was a nice addition to the series, and I look forward to the next book.
Immortal Born (Argeneau #30)
by Lynsay Sands
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book is an excellent addition to this series; a sweet romance, and an action-packed paranormal tale, with plenty of entertaining scenes. If you enjoy those kinds of things, you should read this book, as well as the previous books in the series. No, it's not essential to have read the others before you read this one, since you won't be lost if you don't know who everyone is. I do suggest you try to though, since there are some things you'll only know about some of the characters if you've read their stories in previous books.
The Dancing Bear
by Michael Morpurgo
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
My actual rating is 3.5 stars, but I rounded up. It would have been a five star read for me, but the ending felt kind of sudden and lacking in emotion. Up until that point I thought it was an excellent and beautiful read, but the ending was a disappointment, which took away a lot of my enjoyment of the rest of the story.
I read Stay with Me by Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀. It is set in Nigeria. The narrative unfolds through the alternating first-person voices of a husband and wife. The plot is well-constructed with shocking revelations interspersed throughout. The narrative weaves elements of Nigerian culture, traditions, customs, and folk tales. I thought it was very well done. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished
The Ladies' Paradise (Au Bonheur des Dames) by Émile Zola. Really enjoyed it. 4.5 stars. My review:

I read The Break by Katherena Vermette. A dark and intense intergenerational family saga that sheds light on the plight of Métis women in Canada. The story is very powerful; the language, beautiful; the execution, problematic. This is not an easy read because of the nature of the subject matter. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
