Finished Flights by Olga Tokarczuk. Winner of the 2018 Man Booker International Prize. I thought it was very original and thought-provoking.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished Bernie and the Time Lords and A Cry To War and a couple of Word Search Puzzle books. Getting ready to begin several more books.

Read Woman on the Edge of Time by Marge Piercy and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2982225433.
I read two books during the past week:Journey to the River Sea
by Eva Ibbotson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is a captivating and delightful story, with a fascinating plot, and wonderful characters. It's an excellent adventure for children old enough to appreciate it, and those young at heart.
Empowered
by Katrina Cope
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I devoured this book in one sitting, and the only disappointing thing was that it ended, so my time with the characters was over again for now. I'm loving seeing this series develop, and the characters in it grow as it does. It's also fascinating learning more about the world the author has created, and its various legends. In short: I'm still loving this series, and would highly recommend it, especially if you're a fan of fantasy and mythology.
*NOTE: I was given a free advanced copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. This fact has in no way influenced either my opinion of the book, or the contents of this review.

Read An Artist of the Floating World by Kazuo Ishiguro. It was quite good, but not nearly as good as The Remains of the Day or The Buried Giant--my two favorites.

the cabinet of curiosities and the clique. they both are really good. claire from the clique is a person who I could really relate to.
Finished reading The Vicious Masks series by Tarun Shanker & Kelly Zekas, so I will be reading The Spinner of Dreams by K.A. Reynolds! ^^ So excited to have my hands on the book after winning the giveaway!
I am currently reading the timeless self-help book, "How to Win Friends & Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. First published in 1936. Ok, so, you might ask, "Why this book?" I am an introvert, this is, at least what all the personality assessments tell me that I've been brave enough to complete but, being an author and someone who is self-employed, I struggle with wanting to be a people-person. I love people, of course, but it doesn't mean I want to spend a lot of my time with people. So, I decided that it might be wise to learn how to be a people-influencer, namely through my writing, but do it in ways that help me grow, and therefore, help me to become a successful people-person even if just from my laptop.
I only finished one book this week:Qualify
by Vera Nazarian
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
For the most part I loved this book. The plot concept was interesting, and the combination of history and science combining to show us glimpses of the society and technology was fantastic. So, why only four stars? For one thing, the semi-finals were almost too detailed, while the finals seemed to hardly
be mentioned, so it would have been nice if those had been a bit more balanced out. Mostly though, my issue is with the main character, who manages to be clever enough to get everyone out of tricky situations, even under circumstances where supposedly none of the others can do anything other than cry and panic at their circumstances, but not smart enough to know when to keep her mouth shut, and when to obey orders and stop pushing her luck, which was a bit annoying, though admittedly not as annoying as her whining and crying when failing to spot the signs she should keep her mouth shut and head down got her in hot water, so to speak. So, a great read, but an annoying main character. Still, I'm eager enough to know what happens next that I'm looking forward to seeing how the series progresses, and eager to continue reading it.
I just finished
. It was the most fun read I've had in a while. I bought this book at a local bookstore (yes the brick and mortar kind) on the recommendation of one of their staff members. If you like baseball you’re in for a treat. The book is just fun to read and some of the descriptions about fastballs and baseball in general made me smile, sort of bringing back the kid in me. I loved the descriptions of entering Progressive Field (home of the Indians) because I’d seen it thanks to being a one-time fantasy camper. And it’s not just the baseball that made me like this book, the woman who is the main character had plenty of real-life stuff to deal with, and she showed how real people handle things. I heartily recommend the book.
I finished Motherless Brooklyn by Jonathan Lethem. It's a murder mystery with a compelling portrayal of a first-person narrator with Tourette's Syndrome. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished The Greenhouse by Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir. Quite good but a little disappointing because it was not nearly as good as her novel, Hotel Silence. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I read two books during the past week. So, here they are, along with what I thought of them:Compete
by Vera Nazarian
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book was an excellent read. It was better than the first book in the series was, and every time I had to put it down was tough, especially during the second half of it. I mean, at first, I was just as annoyed by the main character's inability to use her brains for even the most simple of social interactions as I had been in book one. But she got better at thinking before speaking or acting, which I was pleased to see. Not to mention, this book has some excellent scenes scattered throughout it that made it an even more gripping read than the first had been, which you get more and more of as the book progresses. Oh, and that ending... WOW! Just WOW! Seriously, I'm torn between being glad I didn't have book three ready to go, because it was already late when I finished this one, and I know I'd have wanted to start it if I had it, and being disappointed I didn't have book three ready to go, because a large part of me didn't care that it was late, and just wanted to be reading the next book already.
The Arctic Incident
by Eoin Colfer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This was a great read, with plenty of action, and a few sprinklings of humour. Someone I know wrote in their review that this second book was better than the first in the series, but not quite good enough to be worthy of a five star rating. I'm inclined to agree with that opinion. If you enjoyed book one, you'll really enjoy book two. But it's only great, and not excellent.
Just finished the Bound trilogy by Kate Sparkes. I wrote a good review cause I quite liked all three.

I just finished reading the greatest miracle in the world by og mandino. Short book but has a powerful story behind it.
I just posted my review of The Art of Regret: A Novel
by Mary Fleming on my blog here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/10/1...
I am currently reading a book, Stolen Blessings, by one of my favorite authors, Lawrence Sanders. Not his deepest novel, but a fun read nevertheless.
I've been trying to finish the 3rd installment in the Valerie Dearborn series by Caroline Hanson, Love Is Mortal.
I read the first two books very quickly, but there is a fae twist (no spoilers) that I've been wrestling with. The storyline is good, I'm just not a big fan of reading fae plots -I know, I'm sorry.
I also started reading A Discovery of Witches at the end of the summer, but Matthew Clairmont's character is much more overbearing and stalkerish in the book. He comes across as more elusive and interesting in the tv series. (Although, I've only read roughly 100 pages. Barely tapped in.) The writing is great, and I like some things that are not shown or expressed in the show. My progress is slow while I detach from the show enough to appreciate Harkness' original vision of the characters and their relationship.
I've finished
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. It was an enjoyable read overall, but probably could've been shortened by a few hundred pages! 3.4 stars. My review:
