I finished A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes. It's a retelling of the Trojan War from an all-female perspective. My three novels are retellings of myths, so I enjoy reading what others have written. I thought this was one of the better ones I've read.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Read Rebecca Tope's Peril in the Cotswolds and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2852307721.
Here's what I read this week:Silly Willy goes to Cape Town
by Robbie Cheadle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is a fun account of a family holiday, with the fact it's from the point of view of a child often contributing to the entertainment value, especially during those times when it's clear the eight year old from whose point of view it's told lacks full understanding of certain situations. Add to that the recipes at the end of the story, and you have something you can enjoy sinking your teeth in to - whether you're a child or an adult.
Children of the Wise Oak
by Oliver J. Tooley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This was a good read, but it had the potential to be so much more. The characters were interesting, the idea behind the plot was solid, and it's based in a period of history that fascinates me. Unfortunately, something was lacking... It was missing that little spark that breathes life in to a story. I enjoyed it enough that I care what happens to the characters, and want to know what happens to them next, but I didn't love it.
Women of the Wise Oak
by Oliver J Tooley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This one was better than the first in the series. It was a bit of a slow starter, but was a pretty good read once I got in to it.
I just started Aru Shah and the End of Time. It's my first dip into the Rick Riordan Presents imprint and I'm excited. Hope it doesn't disappoint.
I just finished “Year One” by Nora Roberts. Never read her before. This was recommended to me as I like suspense and fiction. It was a good read. Now I need to get book 2!
Read Ian Rankin's Set in Darkness and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2855932448.
I finished The Book of Collateral Damage by Sinan Antoon about the Iraq war and occupation. Interspersed throughout the narrator's story are short vignettes of objects, plants, and animals speaking in the first person to describe all they have lost. The two narrative threads reinforce each other to emphasize the trauma of a nation in a powerful evocation of the collateral damage caused by a war.

Read The Lamp of the Wicked by Phil Rickman and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2859224316.
I finished Autumn by Ali Smith, shortlisted for the 2017 Man Booker Prize. I loved it and intend to read the rest of the series. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Here's last week's reads:Polar Bear Dawn
by Lyle Nicholson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
The story idea was a really good one, and the book was enjoyable in many places. However, there was way too much info dumping (I really don't need full descriptions and backgrounds for every character as I meet them) and too much telling instead of showing (don't tell me she was tired, show me). Plus, I would have thought the person important enough to have her name featured in the series title would be the main person involved in the case, yet there were large chunks of the book where she might as well not have existed, since others were dealing with things just fine without her. So, not too bad of a read, and I will continue the series at some point, but not as good as I'd hoped it would be.
Falstaff's Big Gamble
by Hank Quense
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This was an entertaining read. I didn't love it, but it was kind of good. It's a mash-up between Hamlet and Othello, with fantasy elements thrown in, turned in to a comedy. If that appeals to you, you might enjoy it.

My pleasure.
5/5 stars for The Last List of Miss Judith Kratt
by Andrea Bobotis My review is here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/06/2...
Read A Sudden Wild Magic by Dianna Wynne Jones and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2867985171.
Currently reading The Dovekeepers. Not my usual kind of book but it is good. Writer has a splendid way with words.
Here's what I read this week:Vampires Like It Hot
by Lynsay Sands
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is a great addition to the series. It's far from being my favourite in the series, but I did find it entertaining and enjoyable. I especially liked
the fact we get to see someone having to choose between lifemates, which is a situation that hasn't come up before (despite it having been mentioned in
passing in a couple of the previous books that it can happen).
The Trouble With Vampires
by Lynsay Sands
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book is an excellent addition to the series. I love the worldbuilding and different take on vampires in this series. Also, the main characters this
time were fascinating individuals.
Currently reading Elmore Leonard's "Glitz." Lately, I've been bouncing around a lot of contemporary commercial fiction, and find the writing very generic and impersonal. So I fall back on Leonard, who definitely knows how to put some personality in the writing."Glitz" is one of his '80s crime novels, set in Puerto Rico and Atlantic City. I believe it was even made into a TV movie back in the day.
Finally finished Hamilton. Good to read now to know that our country survived some rough times in the past.
I finished The Egyptian by Mika Waltari, a 1940s international best seller. The setting is ancient Egypt at the time of Pharaoh Akhnaton. It is told in the first person point of view of Sinuhe, Akhnaton's physician. The book is long but well worth reading. Waltari's research is impressive. He paints a compelling portrait of life in ancient Egypt at a time of political upheaval. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I am currently re-reading Going Down Easy by Carly Phillips. The main reason I am here is because I am looking for a book that I cannot remember the name of but I am hoping someone can connect the plot line that I remember a little of.
The heroine and her sister are hackers and they hacked into something that causes I believe the mob to come after them. The heroine's estranged husband comes to the rescue. Can anyone help with the name of the book? I think I might have read it thru kindle unlimited and then I missed a month with them and lost my list of previously read books. Thanks in advance.
