I'm up to my neck in Flashman and giggling like a lunatic. Highly recomnended if you aren't too worried by political correctness.

Almost done with Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Alliance and like especially the way the author ties fictional characters with actual historical figures and event.s
Just finished The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and started reading Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler. The Night Circus was such a beautiful and magical ride, the world building is absolutely spectacular !!!
Finished Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Alliance and now started The Wrecker both happen to be set in nearly the same historical timeframe and I've found some of the same references in both books. Didn't see that coming. And both are about detectives who are really good at what they do.
Am reading the Shannara series by Terry Brooks. Bit of a departure from my usual fair but enjoying them tremendously.

Marion wrote: "I'm Reading Ysabel by Guy Gavriel Kay. An interesting and thought-provoking book."Ain't it just. (Self-confessed Kay fan)
Prophet of the godseed by David Stewart. He's a very informative youtuber that posts book cover designs and book formatting. He is also an indie author.

It is. I'm halfway through and Kay writes quite well. The story is unfolding slowly and I'm enjoying the characterization of Ned. And the delving into Celtic and Roman Mythology .
The shannara series by Terry Brooks. I'm actually revisiting the series after a gap of many years and several new additions to the series.

Read number 2 in the second 5-book Amber series by Roger Zelazny. Wasn't keen - have reviewed it here
Finished Gillian Bradshaw's Hawk of May, first in an Arthurian trilogy. Sadly a bit disappointing - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1390905407
For those of you interested in "reading" the visual arts, I highly recommend Portraits: John Berger on Artists. It's a wonderful book. In addition to discussing artists and their art, Berger shares his thoughts on life and a host of other subjects. It's a fascinating read. I've been dipping in and out of it for a few weeks while simultaneously reading other books. I finally finished it and posted my review on Goodreads https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and on my website at www.tamaraaghajaffar.com
I'd heard a lot about it and finally got to read Susan Sontag's Regarding the Pain of Others, a critique of photographs of war and human suffering. Not exactly a cheerful read, but well-researched, well-written, and thought-provoking. My review on goodreads https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and on my website at www.tamaraaghajaffar.com
My December 2016 reviews post is up, for anyone who wants to take a look: http://ziglernews.blogspot.co.uk/2017...

I finished reading Men in Black Dresses: A Quest for the Future Among Wisdom-Makers of the Middle East by Yvonne Seng. She is a cultural historian who returns to the Middle East to conduct interviews with religious and spiritual leaders (the men in black dresses). I enjoyed her style of writing and found the insights revealed through her interviews refreshing and comforting. I posted my review on goodreads athttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and on my website at www.tamaraaghajaffar.com
