David D'Arcy (davidjdarcy) | 10 comments I'm reading 1st James Patterson's 1st to Die. My father enjoys this author, and now I know why. So far, Patterson writes in short paragraphs that makes the action move quicker. Looking forward as to how the three women find the killer!

J. Rubino (jrubino) Reading both Hawley Smart's "The Great Tontine" a complex Victorian era novel about a peculiar lottery and Gladys Mitchell's "Watson's Choice," one of her "Mrs. Bradley" mysteries. This one involves a wealthy man who gives a Sherlock Holmes-themed house party. Enjoying both so far.

Christine Hatfield | 203 comments I’m reading a book called First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston

message 5320: by Cecelia (new)

Cecelia Tichi | 74 comments Thanks to my book club for "assigning" James McBride's THE HEAVEN AND EARTH GROCERY STORE, an immersive novel with an array of varied characters--Blacks and Jews in a neglected neighborhood called Chicken Hill. The title might not pull you in, nor the location, Pottstown, PA. but my book club chose it, and I dutifully obeyed--then found the richest prose style, characters to love, admire, and loathe while understanding them. For good reason, this book won the National Book Award!

message 5321: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Garland | 417 comments Just finished, after just over a year, Donna Tartt's 'The Secret History'. Sorry Donna, but I found it about as rivetting as watching paint drying, which is why the reading has taken so long. The initial premise of the story is a good one and could have made for an excellent novella. However, to my mind there was far too much unnecessary padding with the whole thing just going on and on. An excellent aeroplane book.
